Don't you own an XB? You shouldn't be giving anyone advice about cars!

Hey - don't knock the box until you drive one I offer free rides for the inquisitive

But the question is... do you drive to that person's house and pick them up, if they want a ride???

The 4 speed transmission mated to the base V6 in that thing makes for one miserable driving experience. That thing couldn't pick a gear to save it's life and it's a flat out dud of a performer.

I'd rather have the I4 in my old Camry.

I certainly can make exceptions for certain people

The TL is a nice car. While I like some domestic vehicles, I like the TL. THere have been some reports of problems with its transmission tho. Check some websites that report the reliability on cars. I think I saw this on MSN.
I'm about to purchase a 2003 TL in a few days. I'd like to get a Dodge Magnum but the Hemi is pretty high. Good second car for me.

Other than the transmissions - they're good cars (the TL). My mom has a 2003 TL, it's a greaty car, very good pickup and pretty refined.

I like the TL for 10k
For that money you can also get into an Infiniti I30, but they're pretty much a Maxima underneath the skin, plus the styling isn't as cool as the TL My mother has a 2000 I30 with 125K miles on it and it runs like an absolute watch, airtight without a SINGLE issue. It's had nothing more than a routine brake change and oil changes. I'd suggest a Lexus ES300, but I would think the insurance/repairs would be more expensive. All in all, I think the TL is the right choice, but you should still look around at similar offerings

Ford = bad gas mileage and poor electronics
Or, as our resident mechanic Roger(uh, did he retire for the 2nd time?) would say:

Good car. Expensive as hell parts if you go OEM; I know because both of my co-workers whine about them.

er, my first post looks like I was saying my mother has a TL, she has an I30 though, I fixed it
I wish I knew some people with some TL's/CL's so that I could help you out with some experience stories, but I know none

Because you could also find a CL for that money, or a Solara (a little more boring, but a damn fine car still), again, just some other stuff to think about

The tranny just failed recently on a friend's 2000 3.2 TL, which doesn't seem to be that uncommon with them.

The CL's seem to be fetching around $11K and ahvea smaller engine...as if 0.2 Liters of displacement makes a difference

I've got a 99 Acrua 3.2 TL. Wonderful vehicle. It just feels quite good on the inside. If you want it to "look" like a luxury vehicle on the outside, you probably want another car. Other than that, it is very nice. My thoughts:
[*]Very powerful for V6. Almost too much acceleration (although I drive a Civic 50% of the time with < 100 hp so maybe I have a bad point of reference).
[*]No problems on snow/ice. The traction control system is mostly a crock (like most TCS on cars), but it isn't needed since the car is so stable anyways.
[*]No repairs ever on my car, and its at 120,000 miles. Consumer Reports lists it as very reliable except for the 2002 and 2003 years (which get average reliability ratings). The 2000 has average reliablity for breaks and perfect for the rest in CR. The 2001 and 2002 have average reliablity for transmission and perfect or very good for the rest in CR.
[*]Ride is quite smooth with little noise. Sound system is quite good and I didn't feel the need to upgrade anything there.
[*]Eats up gas compared to the Civic. I'm just not used to only getting low 20s mph (I haven't actually measured it in the TL) and with premium gas at this point in time I really notice it. $35 to fill it up and rising fast. I expect to be paying $50 a fill up this summer if prices go up like the news suggests.

Yeah it'll make a difference, nothing that'll make you think the CL is a worse car though. Another plus for the 2000 CL is the newer styling that the TL wouldn't adopt until 01

I added gas mileage in my post above.

Also I didn't think of the heating/AC. Both are quite fast at reaching the right air temperature. However, I don't like the automatic mode where it tries to regulate the car's temperature. I'd rather just have hot gas blowing on my face in the dead of winter and cold gas in summer. I couldn't care less what the temperature in the car is. When I also drive a normal vehicle 50% of the time, I just can't get used to both methods.

2k 3.2TL should be a great car... $10k seems like a great deal, I'd spring for one if I didn't want to drive a manual (I want to drive a manual)
