I've got a '99 Mountaineer that I've had for almost 3 years now (84k miles). I noticed when I first got it a slight vibration when it gets up to around 60 MPH. The vibration is slight and is something that I could live with, but I'm about to get a new set of tires, and wonder what could be done to possibly fix the vibration.
I can't tell if it's isolated to the front or the back of the vehicle, but it's more noticeable when driving than riding in the front passenger seat. There is no vibration in the stearing wheel. It's not really noticeable until around 60 MPH.
The tires on it now are the ones that it came with, but I'm not sure if they are the same as the factory tires. I've had the tires balanced and rotated numerous times, as well as front end alignment, but neither seems to make a difference.
The vehicle is in excellent shape and has never been in an accident. So that leads me to believe that it's related to the tires, and not a problem with the frame. I'm not a expert on tires, but maybe consider going to a more "road-friendly" tire than the ones on it now (Goodyear Wrangler RT/S)?
In general, what could be the cause of the vibration?
