This personally is still my favorite pistol, but I have an older one with a longer barrel.

I can't really say why, but I just love this one in particular.

If you cant open that up with your right thumb just flicking it, your doing something wrong

I actually like the longer barrel, makes the gun look more balanced IMO. King Cobras are pretty sweet from what I hear. They don't have the hand-fitting of the Pythons but still have smooth actions and are apparently more reliable. Granted in my experience any of the older Colt revolvers is par-excellence.

Yeah, this one a 4" I believe I think they made a 6, but have a nice .357 Blackhawk with a 6 inch that is nice also.

That King Cobra does feel smooth as silk just using it.

I'm picking up an M&P9 compact tomorrow from its 10 day waiting period here in California. Still on the lookout for a gen 4 glock 26. My ccw renewal comes up in August and I'm restricted to three weapons. I'm looking to do an m&p shield 9, m&p compact 9 or glock 26, and a glock 20.

I need to get on my project of finishing a M1 Garand stock...I've got the BLO already.

That, and my brother is in town soon, and if we're even on speaking terms (might not be...? Weddings bring out the worst in people. In this case, my wedding) I plan to take him to the range to fire my No4Mk1 Lee Enfield. I just need to buy some ammo.

Apparently I've been playing too much Counter-Strike, because I'm picking up a HK P2000 and a Colt 6920 on Sunday :whiste:

Im shopping small 9's

for carrying I have a Kahr CM9, that I like well enough. hard to love to shoot a gun that small

going to check out a friends G43(might replace my Kahr CM9?)

and I have a G27, sort of. a friend loaned it to me(he has about 40 hand guns), and Ive had it for over a year.....

he doesn't really want it back, but I feel bad keeping it, and its 40sw. he told me to just order a barrel for it.

Since the Kahr is pretty great, For small SS9's, I'm mostly just looking at the G43, and the Sig P290RS. because Ive heard great things about the Sig and the glock, and I know and like glocks

It's hard to find a cheap g26 deal around me.(already have a holster for 9/40 glocks for ccw)

Zastava CZ999 - read some glowing reviews. not sure its small enough with a 4" barrel and 15 round mags.

FN FNS 9C

SCCY CPX-2

P1 Mk7 Grand Power

Steyr S-A1

CZ75 P07 Duty 3.8in

EAA SAR BP6

others im slightly interested in:
Sig 2022

Taurus Millennium Pro G2(yes Ive had one before, and I had good luck with it)

others ive toyed with getting, that aren't carry minded at all
Star Super B 9mm

some sort of hi-power, and a rock island 1911 in 9mm....

^ What about the M&P9c? I have the full size m&p9, and it's great for the price.

I guess I left that, and the PX4 storm compact off the list

Ive held the XDS 3.3 and the ergos of the trigger guard don't work for me, which is why it isn't on there

the m&pc is pretty much not different enough from the glock in any way to get me to buy it over one, I think. though I should head to gander and handle one again, to see how it fits

a glock 27 is actually a contender too, for the right price, because for 80-100 I can get a 9mm barrel, and I can go to 357 sig if I want to get fancy

I much prefer the M&P grip and ergo's over Glock. Glock are great guns, but I'll probably never own one (maybe a Gen 4 or later... maybe).

What about the Sig P250? It comes in compact size (modular, too). I also believe the newer P320 (suggested to me by a member here) is modular, and can be converted down to a compact size, and had multiple barrels available.

I have not shot either, but I have held the P250, P226, & P227. All felt pretty good in the hand to me.

If it matters, (to gauge my hand size and preference to yours) I think the best pistol for ergo and grip is the HK30/45. My M&P is pretty close though, and then right after that, a good ol fashion 1911.

my hand from wrist to tip of middle finger is 7.25"

3.25 of that is my middle finger

3.25 is also the width at the base of the fingers

my hands aren't all that large. Its why I can find decent deals on USP9c's but don't buy them....

I forgot about the 250 subcompact. and the 320 carry

I feel like the slides on them are a bit...large..for no apparent reason. in reality its a design issue with the modularity I think

I kinda dig the 229 in 9mm, but its a bit bigger than I would want to carry I think.

I have a sig hookup atleast

though, the 320's are probably more than I am looking to spend

Measurements mean nothing to me really as far as trying to help you. I've never measured my hand. I'm usually a medium in most hand items like gloves, etc. It also depends what type of ergo's you prefer. For example, the Sig 227 has a bit of a shorter and beefier grip, while the M&P45 has a bit taller and thinner of a grip.

Sig has a slighter higher bore axis because of the design... ie the slide is "taller". Not sure if that's what you mean by large.

229 is probably too big to conceal carry comfortably. An ex of mine carried that OWB for her military duty, and I can't imagine carrying my m&p9 any more.

Have you considered compact 9mm 1911's? Fairly rare and you might spend more than you want, but they are definitely something I would consider carrying if you're into cocked & locked and enjoy the 1911 platform.

Otherwise, my vote goes for M&P9c if you're on a budget, but their are plenty of others you definitely should go handle (Kahr, Ruger, Walther, etc). Otherwise, if you are able to spend more, that opens up some other options.

Do you strongly prefer striker fired vs something with a hammer?

I have no real preference on striker vs hammer.

I have very little experience with 1911's, beyond shooting a friends les baer and a colt lightweight commander. so I have no real affinity for them

Ive kept my eye on the 3.5 RIA in 9mm, however.

The EMP is more than I want to spend. and a friend had a terrible experience with his(had to send it back, gen 1 gun, though)

Some of the new 9mm dan wessons are super sexy, but I wont/cant spend 1k+ on a handgun right now, my budget is spent on diapers and daycare with 2 little ones at home

Well it's kind of hard to suggest pistols for you to go handle and shoot if you don't have a set range

All in all, can't really beat M&P and Glock for value. You could check out CZ or Kahr, too.. But I've never shot any guns from them, just handled in store, so I can't give too much opinion on them other than ergos. I'm not a fan of how the XDm feels, so I personally wouldn't get one. Sig, Beretta etc could be options if your budget was higher... But it sounds like it's not.

I hear RIA makes a decent 1911, but when I talk to shop owners they are usually not too fond of the cheaper brands. They really seem to like Ruger, Springfield, Para, Colt and so on.

lets say 500.

I'm very open to shopping used, Im on ar15.com weekly in the EE.

I'm kind of enamored with the bouquet of sub 400 euro guns we can get now(if you couldn't tell from my list...), the EAA/Tangfolios. Many are CZ knock offs. I bought my dad a Witness-p in 9mm and I was really impressed with how nice it was, for 300 bucks in hand.

I already have a kahr, and its nicely put together. My buddy whose g27 I have, has a PM9 vs my CW9, and it has nicer things in it, and great finishes.

but..I'm poor, when it comes to gun budget, so its nice used or bang for buck. Some day later I'll snag a Dan Wesson, it just wont be till the kids are a bit older

For $500, you'll most likely be going used. I got my M&P9 for $450 used, and it's been great, no failures in over 2 years of shooting.

Good luck in your search, it sounds like you know where to head, it's just a matter of getting your hands on something you like, and maybe getting a little lucky.

I haven't shot it like this yet, I shot it on my 100% standard PSA M4 lower, and it functioned fairly well.

its about 3/4 of a pound lighter than my M4
