thanks!

the only thing we can't have are suppressors(for now...)

the FH is just a bird cage....they are pretty unregulated if they don't suppress sound

its about 3/4 of a pound lighter than my M4

So lucky. Here in the great commie state of CT, we now are all defacto banned from buying any new AR/AK platforms. Of course, there is a couple makes to chose from that are state legal, but they look ugly as all hell and AR parts that fit them are extremely limited.

I wasn't smart enough to buy an AR back before April of 2013 because I didn't think the Gov would have enough sack to pass that law.

At least in NJ (where I plan on moving) you can have an AR or AK, as long as there's no bay. lug, no telescoping stock and no threaded barrel/flash hider. Really it's absolutely asinine, but at least as long as you don't have more than 15 rounds in a mag, and you meet all those things (pretty easy) you can have whatever AR/AK you want.

Very nice AR Zargon. Looks like you got some good parts there.

Thanks. I started collecting parts FALL ......so its been a slow process.

Im at 605 right now. Minus the red dot. that was about 70 bucks on sale last labor day.

Ill spend probably 1-150 on a BCG. Eventually probably get a Primary Arms 2.5 or 4x scope for it for just under 300.

Ive got about 500 in my M4 since I added some stuff to it...

Next up is probably getting my C&R, then getting a lower to get a stamp on.

Nice AR. Some day would like to build one. But still need to get a .357 revolver and .357 1873.

Tell me about it.

Plan on ever going with an AK system ever? I know US folks really love the AR, but I've seen some sweet imports of AK. Krebs comes to mind when I think of a real nice looking AK variant.

I've got my half-finished C&R paperwork sitting on my dining room table for the past like 6 months, lol. I dunno why I just don't finish it and send it out.

I will never, by choice, own an AR. I will own AKs though

I built a Bulgarian AK74 earlier this year and had a lot of fun doing it. Best thing about it was that it worked 100% when I shot the cheapest ammo I could find through it.

B/c the AK platform is a beast.

Where did you find the AK74 parts? I had a much harder time finding those than 47 parts.

In your opinion.. 74 more versatile than the 47? I could see the weight maybe being a PITA on longer range days. Of course not all AK47s weight 9-10lb.. The Krebs with out any lights, etc I think its in the 6-7lb range.

They're about the same weight empty, the only real factor in weight would be the ammo. You can have a lot more 5.45 for the 74 at the same weight as the 7.62 for the 47.

Versatile? Eh I dunno, it's basically the same gun, only a different caliber. 5.45 is supposed to be more accurate but I haven't tested it myself yet. I also have side mount scope rails on both rifles so I'll have to put my PSO-1 on it to see well at longer range.

I really don't care for Krebs because I'm more of a traditionalist. I don't like rails, plastic, "collapsible stocks", Tapco/magpul mags, etc etc etc. I like my Classic Wood AKs . Plus Krebs/Arsenal are WAY too expensive.

As far as parts go I bought my parts kit from TothTool/ArmsOfAmerica. Got a Bulgarian Wood matching numbers kit at a decent price. Had a receiver "custom" made and then assembled here at my work with the help of our shop guy. I then sandblasted and (had a hell of a time) Gunkoted it. I didn't like the way the finish turned out so I'll eventually send it off to get it refinished at some time.

The one on the right is the one I built, the one on the left is a AK47 I bought from Atlantic Firearms

According to data I have seen, 5.45 *should* be more accurate than 7.62, but obviously would vary person to person, and depending on distance.

Wow so you did A LOT of custom work, pretty sweet.

See I'm younger and I just am not a fan of wood on firearms. Sure I can appreciate the older M1's or Mossins, but for the most part I like me a good ol fashion Black Gun.

How do you like that AF version? I saw one on their website that I liked and I've been eying it. Can't afford it right now, but maybe sometime next year.

That's my thing, I'm a HUGE WWII nut as far as the eastern front is concerned. I have way too many Russian and Finnish Mosins, German K98s and P38s. I love me some birch and walnut . Though if I were to pick a plastic stock out for an AK I'd for sure go with one of the original Plum sets.

The AF rifle I have is awesome, they definitely spent a lot of time on it. Have only shot it once since getting it, but I was happy when I did. The stock does hurt a little bit more than an Underfolder AK I used to have, but it's solid and as far as I've been able to find is 100% Russian made.

It's totally up to you on what rifle you end up going with. Both the 74 and the 47 are identical inside, but have the necessary changes for their calibers. They're easy to clean and take apart which is VERY important to me. The hardest rifle I have to clean would easily be my PTR91. It's very had to get anything down into the chamber end since you have to attack it from the back of the receiver. I understand that ARs are "America's Rifle" but I'm just not into them, never have been.

Just like cars: some models aren't for everyone. Just be sure not to overpay

Well, when I do get a chance to grab an AK, I'll be sure to PM you for some parts advice. I know I cant afford a Krebs (not even sure if they are legal in the state) but I know AF makes a legal one for my area.

I'm with you. I like AR's, and I get it's what our military platform is based on.. yay 'merka and all that, but something about an AK is just cool to me. I know I'll own both, but I'm I'll probably get an AK first. AR's just seem so bland, unless you spice them up a bunch.

But I'm not trying to start an AR vs AK debate here, that's been beat dead all over the web.

400 buck M&P9C

missed free mags by a day, apparently.

had I seen it this weekend I might have bough tit on the spot

at that price I wouldn't have lost anything if I sold it because I didn't like the ergos, or something

400 is a good deal IMO, especially if brand new.

On an off topic note... Anybody here have experience building an AK74 platform from a Saiga IZ240? I found out the stock Saiga should be legal here in CT, then when I move to NJ hopefully next year, I can build it into a regular ak74.

I got nothing but time

I know there are guys on here with grand powers and EAA's that I would love to hear chime in.

same with px4 and maybe Ill get lucky and someone already has a steyr or fns 9c

plus its been quiet and we need to talk more!

I picked up an FNS 9c a couple of months ago (without a manual safety). So far, I really like this gun. It seems to fit my hand like a glove. It comes with two 12-round magazines and one 17-rounder. One of the 12-rounders has a pinky extension, and that is the one that is most comfortable for me. The other 12-rounder has a flat base plate, and that one either leaves my pinky hanging off in space, or resting underneath the base. One of the things I really like about this pistol is the overly large front sight dot. It is larger than those on any other handgun I have owned, and it makes it fast and easy to pick up when bringing the gun to eye level.

The only negative (for me) is the ambidextrous magazine release. I am right-handed and my inclination is to use my thumb to push in the release. However, if I am using a normal grip, my middle finger gets in the way on the other end and makes it so that I cannot fully depress it with my thumb.

The workaround I am using is to choke up on the grip with my thumb and then use the tip of my middle finger on the other side to press in the release. This is a bit awkward for me and in a tense situation I could see myself fumbling with it, trying to get out the magazine so that I could reload. I think this point will need a lot of practice on my part.

I have a CHL, but I am not yet carrying the FNS. I am waiting for more holster options to come out, specifically one from Concealment Solutions. I emailed the company a couple of weeks ago and their reply was that they had just received a mold for the FNS and should have holsters available for it in the near future. For the meantime I am pocket-carrying a Ruger LCR, which is another one of my favorites.

I also have a Tristar T100 (CZ clone). This gun is fun to shoot, too, but it feels heavier than the FNS and does not fit my hand as well. While my index finger seems to rest naturally in the right spot on the FNS's trigger, the T100's trigger seems to be just a little farther out from the grip. I feel like I don't have a proper placement of my finger on the trigger until I have already started to pull it in a little ways.

Got two of my hosts for my liberty mystic (9mm suppressor) finished in the last few weeks:

The AR-15 is chambered in 300 blackout and was built on a seekins precision billet lower (purchased during the scare when it was the only thing I could get... way too much $$$) that I made into an SBR via Form 1. 8" seekins (rock creek) 5 r barrel.

The pistol is a 9mm Sig P226 X5 tactical (new style) with a Barsto match fit threaded barrel. It locks up tight.

Both shoot great suppressed. haven't shot the SBR without the suppressor (and don't plan to). Have a Liberty Infinity in Form 4 Jail now... so the mystical will be dedicated to the SBR and I can use the lighter Infinity on my 9mm pistols.

My Nexus 5 really takes wonderful pictures... maybe some of the gun fund will be diverted to a nice camera in the near future.

I'd personally never own a AK myself.

Just me I guess, if I we're going that route I'd get more serious about accuracy.

Knock yourselves out if you like em I guess.

Just wondering as there really isn't a wrong answer, but why? I'm not the biggest fan of AKs but if I were in a third world hell hole or even having to engage in any type of weather, the AK would be the rifle that I'd want. It's tolerances are so forgiving it really doesn't run the risk of failures like an AR does. While I absolutely love my ARs (sometimes I wish they weren't so plural when I say AR) they do have very tight tolerances. I should point out that I'm not a doom prepper or SHTF type, just saying what strengths the AK has for me.

For me it just comes down to knowing how to operate the AK system. Like you said, if something ever happened and you found yourself in a situation where there was an AK laying on the ground and you needed to use it...you'd want some training with the system to understand how it works. Same goes with AR. IMO, serious firearm users should at least have experience using both, even if they strongly prefer one over the other.

Both are excellent firearms.

I really don't get the point of this. You still need a license to carry. How about they focus their efforts and retract the NFA. Now that would be awesome!

Incremental steps towards being half as awesome as Montana. Or any number of other states that better uphold 2A rights.

You know, the rights that the Constitution says comes from our Creator, not the State.

Good all around sexy gun in the $500-700 range would be a CZ 75B in Matte Stainless steel. I like the trigger pull of hammer fired guns.

Otherwise a S&W Shield for conceal carry or S&W MP 9C are good options. My Springfield XDM though not very sexy looking I have to admit is damn accurate.

Was just posting about training and various other topics on another forum and thought I'd cross post over here too.

Here is a drill I did in a carbine class a while ago. The gist of the drill was 20 rounds, 4 rounds per circle. Start at rifle at a barrel, run back however many yards to pick up one round on another barrel, run back and load rifle, fire one shot, repeat. I believe it was a modified version of someone else's drill but you had to keep your mind working to keep track of your shots as well as maintain shot discipline. I cheated by sorting out my rounds on the other barrel so I'd just have to move to the next target whenever one group of 4 ran out. I also learned a lot about operating my ar15 in those few minutes. I don't know if you can hear it, but I believe I would try to exhale whenever I shouldered the rifle to get a a clean shot.

Cliffs: Don't just train at the shooting line, get your heart rate up with scenarios you're not used to so you can see how much you don't know so that you can learn.

Video of action (see if you can spot my friend in the class eating dirt)
