Can't blame you. Having owned a polymer gun...bleh. The only polymer gun I have on my list of stuff I'd like, is a FN Five Seven...and that's so low on the list as a novelty item.

Everybody has their own carry preference. While a few choices are pretty retarded, for the most part whatever makes you happy is perfectly legit.

For the OP though, it would be foolish (IMO) to get anything larger than a 9mm. If he decides he wants to carry, then he can get more practice in at the moment without breaking the bank and buy whatever down the road (if the bug bites him, he'll be wanting more guns anyway). TBH, a good .22LR would be an even better choice since he isn't worried about carry or SD, but he's already stated his opinions on that.

I just ordered a case of .45 ACP this morning, and the pricing sucks. I'm gonna have to start reloading sooner or later I guess.

Where'd you buy, and what is the price per round? I'm able to find .45 for around $.35 per round, normally.

Forged ideally, but no way I can afford that. Aren't only (basically) high end 1911s forged? Those run like $2-3K+!

My Dan Wesson CCO is forged, and less than 2K. Forged guns exist, but you have to hunt a little. Avoid MIM parts if you can, or replace them ASAP. Also FWIW, I believe all S&W revolvers are forged, and Rugers are cast.

For guns, the downside of stainless is it's highly reflective - can give your position away in a defense situation. There's a reason Parkerizing and Bluing still live on.

That, and owning a Model 29 (think Dirty Harry) looks wrong with a Nickel or Stainless Steel gun.

I saw a few places selling Tula steel cased .45 for something like $13.50/box (.27/round before shipping) but everyone was out of stock, and I'm not very fond of that stuff anyway.

I bought a 500 pack a while ago of the BVAC 223 from cheaper than dirt. Good stuff for the price. Every gun is different (I have a RRA upper) but I didn't have a single jam, failure, or misfeed with the whole box. If you have a weird aversion to steel or your range won't allow it, this once fired brass BVAC stuff is a good deal.

Brass is superior to steel in pretty much every gun. Be careful, sometimes you get brass plated steel and that shit dont work too good either. Thats what they tried giving me when I rented a FS2000 and it jammed every other round.

I wouldn't say "most" but a significant percentage do. All depends on the person. Some people are pure hunters, some people just like to shoot guns on the weekends and don't really care; I'd say people who are more into handguns are more likely to carry, but that only says so much.

The only real correlation between gun ownership and CC IMO is "to CC you have to own a gun." All comes down to the individual.

And with that, I'll say that this gun is NOT an AR. The manual of arms is different, very different. Expect it to behave like an AR, and you will be disappointed, and the weapon will probably malfunction. There is no last round bolt hold open. The design of the gun doesnt allow it, and I dont believe it is necessary anyway. If you insert a mag but dont seat it all the way, the gun will jam. If you insert a mag on an open bolt and ride the bolt forward instead of pulling and letting it fly forward, the gun will jam. If you experience a jam and yank back and forth on the charging handle, you will compound your problem and add more jammed rounds into the mix. You MUST remove the mag, THEN rack the charging handle, then reinsert mag. I would guess that 90% of the malfunctions with this weapon are user induced.

Some do, some don't. Ideally, I'd say you should get it - transporting the gun to the range becomes simple with a CPL. I only got my CPL 2 years after buying my first gun. Best $55 I've spent in a while. However, standing in line next to the registered sex offenders in the Seattle Court House was pretty sad.In 30 minutes I saw 8 sex offenders and 3 CPL applicants.

Kazaam lives in Indiana. You doesnt need a lisence to transport the a handgun anywhere. If I recall, You need to keep it unloaded and the mag seperate from the gun. Having said that, get you LTCH. The hardest part is paying for for it.

I vaguely remember that thread. Wasn't it also possible the gas regulator was set wrong? Could've also been a bad magazine follower, if they're anything like the Army-issue STANAG magazines.

Heh, same here in NY. Except here we're one of those annoying schizophrenic draconian "may-issue" states and very few people actually get a license permissive enough to conceal for personal protection, at least in my county. People here can't even touch a handgun without a permit, even in stores.

Reloaded ammo that Jimbob the redneck is selling at a gun show, I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. But there are some companies that I trust to do reloads, and BVAC is one.

Most of the people i know who own guns and that i go shooting with have their CPL. However most of them dont carry. Just easier to get it than to not (and its cheap). And those that do "carry" its usually only when they are going shooting. For me my guns just stay in the safe till i go to shoot them.

Someone posted this (shorty?) thread, which brings me to my next question...is it ok to use factory reloaded ammo?

BVAC (factory reloads) worked well for my 357mag. Shot them in 45 as well and didnt have any issues. Though now i reload most of my own ammo so its cheaper but ive still bought some more BVAC for calibers i dont reload. I honestly see no reason to not use them for just target rounds.

Well, you have to trust the source. If someone screws up a reload with a double charge of powder or uses a damaged/weakened case, it's going to blow up or severely damage your gun and your warranty isn't going to cover it. That guy looks to have enough positive feedback that I'd be ok with using his stuff were I in CA, but he really isn't any cheaper than other remanufactured sources once you have to pay shipping.

Most of the reloads that I shoot come from BVAC* or Freedom Munitions.
