Well shit, brass in firing pin hole? I mean what could possibly even cause that, other than a damaged case? Have you seen a 1911? Do you know how firearms work?

I believe anything is possible, but have to say this one keeps making me scratch my head. That is such an odd thing to happen. Of course I did get a piece of rubber from a glove I was wearing stuck between the barrel and the slide on a PX4 when I was cleaning it that took a gunsmith to get it out (it was really wedged in there) so anything's possible.

I mean technically it's POSSIBLE for a tornado to hit a junkyard and leave behind a fully fueled prepped 747 with engines ready for take off.

I said damaged case. I specifically said a case reloaded one too many times. Do you even read the whole comment before you spout off?

Yes to both of your questions. I suggest you read this thread and educate yourself.

Or read this: http://forum.m1911.org/archive/index.php/t-67818.html

Btw, log is a professional gunsmith.

Even reloaded too many times, explain to me how it is reasonably possible for brass to end up caked inside the firing pin hole.

And past that, from what you very vaguely described, it sounds like that would've happened to a glock as well.

How? Strikers are sealed.

And I think you are twisting the intent of my words. I'm describing "show-stopping" situations that could freeze a newbie in their tracks because of the difficulty in detail stripping a 1911, especially if it isn't a quality one. I'm not stating, or implying, that this happens often.

I still maintain a newbie without mechanical skills can't detail strip say a Taurus 1911 because the firing pin stop is pressed in place. You'll need much more than a pencil to get it loose.

Ugh. This arguing over stupid bullshit sucks. Doesn't anyone have any gun-related news, or questions?

I was gonna pick up another 500 rounds of 9mm FMJ from Freedom Munitions for $139.99 (I think it came out to 31 cents/round with shipping) but my money is a bit tight for the next couple months or so. But, I did order 500 about a month or something ago so that'll have to do for now.

As for questions; has anyone ever used a Dead Ringer Drop Box shotgun sight? I can't find hardly any reviews on it except this one for a similar product. I shoot clays with my Mossberg 500 and it looks like it would give a nice sight picture. It's not too expensive either.

I'm partial to a ghost ring and a gold bead, myself.

Sounds like they should upgrade to a Ruger or Springfield then. In any case you have to admit brass getting the firing pin channel is a one in a billion freak accident.

Indeed. Many non-mil spec rifles omit the dust cover altogether. Isn't it tricky to install the dust cover with a barrel and hand guard installed, though? The nuisance of that might make me wait before building.

Yep, thats the point. It is all but impossible to install once everything else is done, so I'm just waiting for it to show up.

Springer is one that is susceptible to it, since they use a titanium 9mm firing pin in their 45s, so they'll pass Cali's drop test without series 80 parts.

I was surprised when Sig started making 1911's. Now they have like 50 models.

Yeah, I just can't get over the external extractor. I know it's perfectly functional, it just looks wrong IMO. 1911s should be smooth. They have some awesome finishes though. Here's hoping they come out with this camo in a .45:

So Louisiana will have a no sale tax on firearms, ammo, accessories (anything and everything related to firearms) on the weekend after Labor Day = http://revenue.louisiana.gov/sections/general/hottopics/secondamendment.aspx

I will take a drive and pick a sub compact. My criteria: 9mm or .40, about $500 or up to $600 max and reliable.

So far, the contenders are:

1) Beretta Nano
2) S&W Shield
3) Glock 26 or 27
4) Ruger
5) Springfield
6) Sig

I am an decent guy size, not too big but not too skinny and with average hands.

What do you say, gun owners? I know that I will have to handle and pick out the best "fit" for me. Just want you guys to me the lowdown/your opinion on the above list or give me suggestions. TIA.

Based on your stated criteria, look at the PX4 Storm in 40

WOW do I agree. With the issues of insanely high gun prices and the non-availability of ammo ... the thread degrades due to someone NOT agreeing with another.

I have the funds to buy all of the guns and ammo that I choose ... but I choose NOT to become part of the insanity. I will move on to another hobby worthy of my money before I will contribute to the current gun/ammo price madness.

Every thread in this forum degrades into people arguing.

On a related note.. I've picked up a new Colt M4 Carbine today. Where's the better places to order parts like grips and such at?

Big box stores don't seem to have them though...

A lot of people like Magpul mags/grips/stocks/sights/random accessories. You can find Magpul at a lot of places. A nice all-in-one place to buy gear is http://www.brownells.com/.

My local hardware store has 20+ boxes on the shelf. I'm sure they have more in the back. Try to avoid the big box stores.

midwayusa, bravocompany, brownells, joeboboutfitters, your local gun store, ect. It shouldnt be that hard to find pretty much anything AR you could want.

I like my Walther PPS 9mm so far but that's not on your list.

Out of your list, I'd probably go with a Springfield XDS-9, or a Glock 26. I would've gotten a 26 myself instead of the PPS but I wanted very slim cause I'm a skinny dude.

Edited to what I think you'd consider in that price range:

1) Beretta Nano
2) S&W Shield (M&P Compact is also a good choice here)
3) Glock 26 or 27
4) Ruger SRc
5) Springfield XDsc
6) Sig P250sc

I don't think you're much smaller than I am by your description, and these are all smaller than my current CCW (SIG SP2022).

I personally shoot (ha) for a 10-round cap minimum in whatever I conceal. Not really a fan of the so-called "baby Glock" because I like to have at least three fingers around the grip front, not including any mag extensions. I'd go for the XD, SIG, or M&P...not necessarily in that order...but all of them are good choices.
