Why stop there? May as well go with the set with the 224, 228 and 229 so you have the sequence. Going to be an expensive set though. But with that many you can try out the different triggers; DA/SA, DAK, SRT etc.

IMHO get good at one gun prior to moving on. For my sidearm, 9mm. I may be a Casull .454 for a shit hits the fan type of gun and I am considering a Ruger LCP for a pocket gun. I'd like a Springfield 1911 Custom as well on day. All of these should have ammo to be found when walmart gets nuked.
When I get into rifles, it will be a Mosin-Nagant, some kind of AK-47 in 7.62x39 and a .30-06 of some type I bet. I am banking on easy ammo when easy ammo is not on shelves.
That would be .243, .270, 7mm, .30-06, and .300 win mag judging by Dec '12+. If you have an AR10, a .243 upper is a good idea.
For pistol I'd think .357/.38 and .45LC based on what has been on the shelves non stop.
.454 casul is a good choise because it can fire .45LC which was plentiful during the entire shortage.

I was just being sarcastic. Also consider and AK74 for uber cheap ammo.
Hmmm...local (kinda) cop is selling a P226 in .40 for $500. I really don't like .40 but for that price I might strengthen up my wrists.
Man, TEN days since the last post?? Shame on all of us!!
Two things:
1- Palmetto State Armory is offering free shipping this weekend. Especially nice for ammo orders!
2- Can anyone recommend to me, for a 60-something man with arthritic hands, a good pistol for concealed carry/self defense?? He has a really nice semi-auto 9mm, but his arthritis makes it tough for him to jack the slide anymore. Also, pistols with a sharp recoil can really make his hands hurt too (for instance, my Glock 27, which fires .40S&W). I suggested a revolver, but wasn't sure, beyond that, what to suggest. Thanks!
For concealed carry a J-Frame or other sub-compact revolver in .357 magnum sounds like it would fit the bill. If his arthritis can't handle the magnums he can run .38 special or .38 +Ps that should do the job.
If he's willing to go into .380 most of the sub-compact .380s have pretty light recoil springs, especially once broken in (I draw my Sig P238 back with 2 fingers without much effort).
Well bit the bullet so to speak yesterday... Ordered all the parts to build another AR but will be a 300AAC blackout caliber since I have several boxes of ammo for one... I ended up with the ammo in a trade so I said what the heck it will be something different and very quiet...:sneaky:
I put a Sig 716 (California compliant) in jail the other day... This to replace the one my ex had stolen from me, may she rot in hell (or Fresno, same difference). I've opted to go with an ACOG TA55A for the optic
I know what you mean! Any time I have spare parts or an unused caliber of ammo another upper magically assembles itself!
I feel bad for you CA guys. Here it's walk into store, pay for gun, fill out paperwork, and leave with your new gun. Last one I was in and out in 20 minutes.
Thread related I picked up a Glock 27 a week or so ago. Trying to get rid of a Sig P239 to get a Glock 23 for the wife.
