CZ SP-01 came home before falling off the CA roster. Complements my IWI Jericho 941FS.

She is definitely a chonk but I really prefer steel framed pistols to actually go shooting with.

Gun noob here. Finally at a place where I have some time and money to get into this sport. First stop is a safe as required by my state (MA).

This is the first one I’m looking at:

What are some pitfalls to look out for? Does only a key lock make this a poor choice?

Plans for firearms, per MA restrictions (which are currently in flux as our governor and legislature have released a big change that includes quite a bit of vagueness): 1x 22LR bolt action, 1x 22 pistol, 1x 20gauge breaker, 1x 9mm pistol, and to be had later: 1x 12 gauge pump action.

These will mainly be used at a club I joined. With the 9mm being the go to in home and may not be stored in the big safe all the time.

Safe budget is $1000

I'm not familiar with that brand of safe. Safes are like a lot of things, you have to buy what works best for you. I myself would choose a safe that is strong enough that it takes time for a thief to break into, hopefully discouraging theft. I don't necessarily want everything in the safe to survive a 12 hour fire and those are much bigger and more expensive. Safes are like tents, they never comfortably hold as many guns as they claim they will. I would buy a safe with about double the capacity you think you might need, strong enough that it can't be easily broken into, and heavy enough that it takes more than two guys to carry out of the house.

As for just a key, I would have a digital keypad, you can hide the key somewhere else, but if the batteries die you can still get into it by popping off the keypad.

I have no experience with weapons, but i found this video :
This full automatic manipulated Glock P80 looks nice , but will it not blow up in your hands ? Like overheat or something ?
Or that the bullet get stuck in an overheated barrel ?

It is fun todo calculations to see how many joules those bullets have when leaving the nozzle, nozzle speed.

Kind of reminds of that movie gun Robocop shoots, in the movie Robocop from 1987 (The best one : Paul Verhoeven).
Robocop 2 (1990) is also one of the best movies.

Makes sense

I noticed there is a gun which does the same as a modified Glock P80 : The Glock P18.
That is kind of dangerous, such a gun with even a 33 rounds magazine.

Maybe one day i will also try a shooting range. Looks like fun. Boys will be boys.

Released in the same year 1987, the movie Robocop hit the screens. Robocop with an automatic hand gun.
Funny coincidence.

Finally getting my suppressors next week. I ordered a Banish 45 for my 9mm pistol and mainly my pc carbine. Also getting one for the .22 due to their free promotion. Can't wait to shoot something, quietly.

Finally got the optics adapter plate for my Stacatto P after the USPS decided to deliver it, they have been glacial lately. I went between the Holosun 507 Comp and the Trijicon SRO but decided on the 507. Presenting the gun it just feels so spot on, but I can't fire it until tomorrow after work. Pictured with my Banish 45, I have another one coming tomorrow so I don't have to keep swapping cans between guns.

Californian here, I'm sure it's been discussed but not going to dig through 500+ pages:

Any recommendations for a good SHTF rifle? I figure just about any Cali legal AR-15 chambered for 5.56 with a pic rail aught to do it.

Snag a pistol grip mod to get rid of that absurd Cali legal handle as well as some standard magazines and I should be good to go (no modding unless I leave the state or SHTF in which case having non-compliant mods installed would be the least of my concerns).

Better off with a shotgun - at least you aren't neutered to death.

-Issue with shotguns is capacity and range tho, no? Do you have a recommendation for a good all around shotgun?

AR-15 is basically all interchangable parts usually chambered for extremely common ammunition (5.56) and in a SHTF scenario we can safely rule out meaningful law enforcement so I can always keep parts handy for modification (or if I go across state lines somewhere that doesn't have draconian laws on the books).

It probably depends what kind of scenario you're envisioning, and if you're concerned about range, how accurate you can actually be at that range in a stressful situation. Could be worth a trip to the range to see how you feel about your accuracy in a less-stressful situation to gauge things?
Mossbergs are well-regarded, the Maverick 88 line is basically the stripped-down version of their 500 model. Could be cheap enough to let you have both options available? Mine has 7+1 capacity.

Most shotguns designed for a 12ga load will hold 8rd or so, you can get some of the dual chamber ones like the Keltec that double that. In most SHTF scenario, just having a firearm and racking it will be enough. People talk a lot but the ones actually able to see things through and have a modicum of training with their firearms would be well ahead of everyone else.

As far as range, most engagements are probably within 25 yards. A 12 gauge loaded with buckshot would do perfectly fine. People don't need ARs designed to go to 400yd unless you're doing actual warfighting.

My point is that a fully legal shotgun is going to do way better than a 10 rd bullet button fixed mag no pistol grip AR, and unless you're willing to risk jail by having the ability to modify your rifle to make it non Cali compliant, you're probably better off with the shotgun.

Plus its easier to shoot. Most people talking about "SHTF" will take a gun out once a year to plink at a target. You're more of a liability to yourself having an AR and not regularly shooting it.

If we're talking about SHTF fantasies, then there is no effective state. And a shotgun is not easier to shoot than an AR. They are is one of the easiest guns to shoot. And although I don't practice all the time, I'm never forgetting how to use it. In reality, you don't need a hit bullseyes. You just need to hit torso. And I'm guessing that I can shoot you from a farther distance than you can with your shotgun. And because of its collapsible stock, they are make a good firearm for inside use as well.

Are you guys talking about home defense scenarios? Shotguns should do fine, and may be preferable in some ways, such as not over penetrating and hitting something you don't want hit, as well as not being quite as hard on the hearing. One way a rifle may be preferable though, is if the break in is planned, and the assailant(s) are wearing body armor as part of their planning. Obviously rifles will have better penetration, which can be both a pro and a con.

So yeah, it depends on the situation.

@GodisanAtheist I don't see what is so funny about the post. It is true after all, at least to my understanding. And home defense is no laughing matter.

-I was simply reading between the lines on your "planned home invasion" statement which sounds a lot like getting no knocked by the cops or ICE or like agency.
That's about right. Unless you have drugs and/or drug money in the house, the odds you will get a squad of armored and heavily armed invaders is near to nonexistent. Good luck if it happens, you will need all of the lucks.

Shooting is like anything else, if you don't practice enough, you won't be good at it. Dunning-Kruger is a bitch, don't be on the wrong side of the graph.

Question: Do any of the ranges where you go have the Trump as Rambo banners? That shit is hilarious to me. God damned ammo sexuals need to settle down.

I was referring more to semi-organized crime targeting break-ins, as the later would be even more dangerous.
