Well, i thought it was time for me to compile the order of events on how a group goes in WoW.

1st. SM group forms after 2 hours, consists of a warlock, a priest, a rogue, a mage, and a hunter.

2nd. Group sets out and enters instance.

3rd. Warlock soulstores himself rather than the priest.

4th. Group approaches mob of 5 humans guarding a chest.

5th. The rogue sneeks in and tries to pick pocket all of them, but gets detected and aggros all 5, rogue gets hurt after the zerging.

6th. Mage pollys a member of the mob, but not before the hunter sends his pet after the one that he just pollied.

7th. Warlock seduces another human, but the hunter has already opened fire on the one that was seduced, while his pet attacks the one that the mage tries to polly. Polly and seduction breaks.

8th. Priest uses the super heal to heal the rogue, forgets about fade, draws aggro from the mob that then gang bangs him. The priests dies after no one takes the aggro off of him.

9th. Rogue draws hate from the pet of the hunter, due to his leather armor and no healing, he dies.

10th. Warlock does nothing but spam shadow bolt and/or searing pain, draws aggro and soon gets ripped to shreds.

11th. Warlock then rezes using his soulstorage and continues to open fire. Draws aggro again and dies.

12th. Mage freezes the mob in place and runs (and blinks) back to the entrance to the instance entrance and leaves the instance, hunter remains in place. The mob follows the mage in a nice little train.

13th. Hunter feigns death right before the mob aggros to him.

14th. Mob begins camping the instance entrance now that the mage has trained them there, so that when anyone enters to rez, they will get attacked by the mob.

15th. Hunter, seeing that the area is now clear, gets back up from feign death, loots all the corpses he can, then loots the chest that no one is now guarding while his group members are dead or outside the instance.

16th. Go to step 4

that sounds like a rough few hrs. i spend no longer than 1/2 hr on cath. w/ my guildies.

i've beat armory at L45 w/ a L43 Pally just the 2 of us. so if the 5 of you guys can't go through w/o getting destroyed... gotta find a ringer or a better group.

Itll get better. It was such a pain when I made my priest alt and started running deadmines, stockades, and gnomer... I forgot just how much people have no idea how to play the game when they are new... I mean I was that way too, but its hard going from running maraudon with a bunch of 50+ who know exactly what their roles are, to running gnomer with a bunch of people who want to kill all teh mobz...

The biggest thing you are missing from that scenario is a tank... heh you cant beat any instance without a tank...

Gets better at higher levels, or in lower-level grouping with people who have 60 mains.

Could have predicted the outcome based on this alone. Poor group makeup and 2 hour wait desperation... 9 times out of 10 this will be crap.

LOL, that's why I love grouping with our AT guild members.

Seriously, we did Gnomers first time through in about an hour. Good Pulling, mass AoE*, effective crowd control, timely healing and a lot of /p chat.

*2 Mages and a Warlock spamming AoE was DPS overkill...

That is pretty accurate. Except you'll have to add "Mage does AoE and immediately draws aggro from 2 mobs". Priest spends all of his mana healing the mage and now he can't heal anybody else.

thats when nova comes into play. thats when high dps or warriors just draws that aggro almost immediately if played right.

My latest experience:

1. 3 guildies decide to do Maraudon to get some gear upgrades.

2. Spend an hour trying to fill the two remaining spots.

3. Procede to do the instance with little trouble.

4. One of the group members we picked up wins every single good drop.

5. Leave the instance with no new gear for the guildies.

I think the hardest thing for people new to MMO games to learn is agro management. It always kills me when I group with mages that insist on burning a mob down from 100% to 50% in the first 5 seconds of battle then running around in circles while the mob beats them senseless then seeing the good ole "WTF, where was my heal?!?!" message when they die.

Assign a MA and MT before you pull the first mob. You'll wipe if everyone's attacking something different. Low level players with little experience don't usually understand the concept of teamwork.

You didn't lay down loot rules at the offset?

We generally go without loot rules. It could have just as easily been one of our groupmates who won all the drops.

I guess we gambled and lost.

No tank, no designated puller... you had a pickup group....

Really pickup groups are usually the tards who don't have guildies to play with. Crap of the crop, hah.

Some of these don't always apply, but the following apply most often in my experience:

Priest uses the super heal to heal the rogue, forgets about fade, draws aggro from the mob that then gang bangs him. The priests dies after no one takes the aggro off of him.

Even if the priest fades, often such a group has a chronic aggro problem and all fade does is buy 10 seconds for nobody to touch the mob in question that will go right back to the priest and be stuck 10 times harder than before.

I would replace 4 with:

4) High level warrior approaches 5 mobs guarding a chest while the priest is still drinking from the previous battle.
4a) Lower level <insert class here> oblivious to the term 'aggro radius' approaches to same distance... mobs aggro party while they are completely unprepared.

While this is an easy way to define how stuff should work, you're actually sacrificing a good deal of flexibility in WoW by adhering to something so rigid.

It was insanity to do otherwise in EQ, but in WoW your tactics should vary depending on circumstances otherwise you are going to be a lot less efficient than you could be.

that's totally innacurate. a real rogue would have looted the chest as soon as the hate was taken off him

edit: fruedian slip. haha.

The sheep was only whacked once?! Dayum, that's a step up from some of the groups I've endured.

Going to a mid lvl instance w/ a hunter was your first mistake. Not making the hunter dismiss his pet was your second. Not kicking the warlock for doing something as stupid as ss'ing himself was your third.
