And 10 years old car is nothing for me. I had T2 bus which i worked on a lot and still have 74 c3 vette. 90ties cars are from my opinion best because they are still pretty damn good cars mechanically, not so much computer crap or useless tech and there is hardly anything new cars offer over them design/technology etc.

So keeping 30 years old car on the road seems like fairy low effort, especially when parts are available.

I've worked on a few cars with tight engine bays or ridiculous placement (why would you put this part between the engine and the firewall!!!).
Whenever I get misty eyed for the halo cars of my youth I just remember to say this in the mirror 3 times.
"Vacuum line troubleshooting and replacement"
"Vacuum line troubleshooting and replacement"
"Vacuum line troubleshooting and replacement"

These cars are decades old at this point. It's one thing to keep a 10 year old or even 15 year old car running.
Once a car hits 20+....oooof.

I kept the 91 until about 2012, and then got rid of it due to incessant little issues that toubleshooting alone took hours.

If your starting point is a Defender, everything might seem pretty damn reliable.
Defenders exist to test the ingenuity of its owners to justify the price they paid and to test their ability to fix things on the trail.

can't agree more. And both mine were 2007, so should be fairly "ok". Thought what surprises me is also that they miss stuff you would really consider required given their target group. For example the engine protection cover or diff locks.

I drove the new Jimny, actually a really cool car. Imho this a little larger is what new defender should have been. LR fcked it up (again), sadly.

It also always had the grill and afaik was sold in the US (as samurai?). But not much probably.

Not only that, but also complete opposite of what everyone expected. Instead of utilitarian car built to last, it is another LR overengineered junk of which they already have full lineup.
