where can you get it for 100?

id rather spend an extra $20 and be able to upgrade more later

the deal says it doesn't die until 8/12 ? i was planning on buying it right now if i could get some advice on cooling systems

That build looks good with the exception of the ram and windows.

What are you doing spending 200$ on windows? Just get home premium for 99$ unless you have a specific reason for ultimate.

Ram is theoretically fine, but X58 is a triple channel platform, and those ram sticks are dual channel. It's not a huge deal, but you could get 3*2gb sticks of basically the same ram and save some cash. Either way it's probably fine, but the 4gb sticks are just an added 20$ over 2GB.

If you think you'll need more than 12gb of ram at some point for photoshop or cad or something, then it's fine, if not, you could save some cash.

Another note, the GTX 470 deal died 4 hours ago :/ Still 270$ isn't bad, but it's no longer as awesome as it was before.

You do lose some performance in dual channel compared to triple, but it's nothing that I would be worrying about at all.

I think it did for wherever TD's servers are set to. Try it, but I couldn't get it to work with the coupon. It's still a pretty good deal for 270$.

Cooling. You want aircooling as watercooling has maintenance and gets expensive. The value part is the hyper 212+ at 25$ or less. The cooling forum has people much more knowledgable on it in depth than me.

Megahalems, dark knight, noctua's coolers, scythes are all good brands/models I can name off the top of my head. The cooling forum is where I would check though as I have not studied current coolers in depth.

Here ya go. There are also many combo deals that will take it down to $90.

As for cooling, the Venomous X is great if you want to overclock very high on air. The Noctua's are good too. For cheaper, we were kind of spoiled by the $30 Hyper 212+. Now that it's up to $50, there is really kind of a void in my opinion. I do not have any experience with this Xigmatek, but it looks to be very close to the Hyper 212+ in design.

Single-channel DDR reads 64 bits at once. Dual-channel reads 128 bits at once, and (you'll never guess!) triple-channel reads 192 bits at once. This has the effect of increasing available memory bandwidth. Dual channel requires matched pairs of memory and triple channel likewise requires memory to be installed in sets of 3.

The increased bandwidth sounds great, and for some applications it is. However, normal desktop applications and game's don't really benefit because you're not streaming a ton of stuff into and out of memory constantly.

IMHO, X58 is needlessly more expensive than P55 or AMD, and the money would be better put towards a better graphics card.

The Extreme 3 is fine. If you have $200 to spend, IMHO an SSD is the way to go. It is easily the biggest single upgrade you can make to a system for general use.
