Yet, another NTFS question

I just got a new computer, and was installing win2k. it only gave me the option of formatting it to NTFS but not FAT32. So I did it, I have a computer that is win98se networked to it. So why is everyone worried that NTFS cannot be compatible with win98 or 98se or ME, can't u just format you HD again to be FAT32?

mainly it stems from dual boot implications, run NtFS on a primary active partition and win98 won't bother to install. put NTFS on a partition, 9x won't see it. But that's only in the local sense. As far a networking goes, it's all about protocols. 9x can pick up stuff from Ntx over a network

I use NTFS for security reasons...You got more choices in putting security on shared folders, and can go "deeper" into files with NTFS than fat. I only use fat when dualbooting.

Let's not forget less chance of data corruption and disk fragmentation.

Yes you can format the hard drive as FAT32 again, but you cannot convert from NTFS to FAT32 unless you do it through third party software.

Your networking question has been addressed.

FWIW I have never seen an install of W2K not ask what file system you want to use.
