Hi all,
My WRT54G2 keeps disconnecting itself, and becomes non-visible to any number of devices in my home - My wife bought it for me when we were living in China and I think something got damaged on the flight back to the USA since it was in our checked luggage.
I'm looking for something that will give me the best performance possible to multiple instances such as gaming, video streaming, downloading, transcoding a video from my PC to watch on our TV, downloading (including torrents (legal like Rev3 content or Miro Channels) and allowing multiple people to do things without slowing anyone down.
I currently live in a 1 bedroom Apartment, but am considering a move in September, so range at this moment isn't that necessary, but protection and congestion is (neighbors)
I currently own:
1x Macbook (Whitebook)
1x iPad Gen 1
1x HP Veer 4G w/ WebOS Phone
1x Nokia E75
1x Playstation 3
1x Xbox 360
1x Windows 7 PC using a ASUS PCE-N13 IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Wireless Adapter Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates 64-bit/128-bit WEP, TKIP, and AES WI-Fi alliance WPA, WPA2
1x PSP-2000
1x NDS Lite
My brother who also has a Macbook comes over sometimes and would like connectivity (Guest account if possible) as well as my Friend & His Wife who both have a Macbook and HP Computer (Work - uses win XP/2000 I think)
Future additions may include:
Internet Connected TV
NAS of some type
iMAC
Photoframe that streams pictures
Touchpad or other tablet (maybe)
Wii and/or Wii-U
This is all being run off Time Warner Cable using their supplied Cable Modem which is a Motorola SB - Don't remember the model, it's white. I've toyed around with the idea of purchasing an SB6120 Cable Modem as well, but may hold off for the SB6121.
I also use OpenDNS, and have never used DD-WRT/Tomato/OpenWRT but am not opposed to it.
Things will be a mixture of wired and wireless - The Modem And Router sit near our current TV which obviously is near the Consoles - so I would like gigabit jacks on the back. The ability to assign IPs by Mac Address would be nice, but not essential as I can do that on the devices end, but the ability to do Mac Filtering is essential (locking everything out except THESE Mac Addresses).
I was considering getting the Linksys E4200, but I don't know if it's MORE than I need, it certainly costs more than I'd like to spend.
I also play MMOs like WOW (Plan to play Star Wars: TOR and/or Guild Wars 2) and Starcraft 2 w/ my friends.
Thank you,
vpr
