Essentially you are forced to. Gun right advocates make the claim that guns are great for self defense, but if your defending yourself against perpetrators who have guns, then you essentially are forced to arm yourself.

Not everyone is willing for a variety of reasons. A lot of people wouldn't be able to live with themselves if they killed someone, even if that person was threatening to kill their entire family.

Hell, Im fairly vocal about gun rights and I have never carried concealed a day in my life. In my early 20's I was uneducated, in my mid 20's I carried openly and professionally as a soldier and policeman, and in my late 20's I lived in IL where it isn't allowed.

I've taken the non-mandatory course in AZ, applied for my not required permit, and will begin carrying next week.

By bad people do you mean criminals? Those who willfully ignore the law? Then I'd say laws won't really have too much an affect on what they do.

I could also argue that there are tons of "bad" people out there today, possibly with guns. Yet I don't think everyone else feels "forced" to go and buy a gun.

Freedom in this regard just means, we trust you to make the right call for yourself. I don't think its productive to force a choice on everyone uniformly, one way or the other.

It's an odd kind of freedom you think you have, when you're so fearful of the government, paedophiles, terrorists and your neighbour, that you feel the need to arm yourself with a gun.

What i'm saying is, if guns are freely accessible, obviously bad people will be able to obtain them. If the only way to neutralize a threat that has a gun is with a gun, then you are at a severe disadvantage if you don't have one. That basically forces you to either a) have a gun to defend yourself or b) be a victim

I don't understand what freely accessible means to you people...

Direct from your precious government who will be at your house in 1 second to save you from the criminals:
http://www.atf.gov/firearms/how-to/identify-prohibited-persons.html

That is a list of people who are denied access to guns.

and here is a good idiot's guide...i mean anti-gunner's guide...to buying a firearm. since most of you seem to think you can walk into a grocery store and just pick one up off the shelf and pay for it and start shooting up schools.

Do away with all of your smoke detectors and fire extinguishers then. Liberate yourself from the constant fear of burning.

I guess your logic is, if you keep saying it, I'll believe it?

I don't "live in fear," or however you want to describe it, but I guess you would know a lot more about how I feel.

this type of response is idiotic.

Do i fear pedophiles? no. but i also take steps to protect my children from them. i do not let them go with people i do not know. I do not let them get on the internet unsupervised. i do what i can to limit the chances they run into one as any good parent would do.

All of those things are sensible precautions to take.

None of them require arming yourself with a collection of guns.

you don't get it. it's about being prepared.

Let's not even argue that. Why is it necessary for anyone to provide a reason for doing something, as long as it does not infringe upon the lives of others?

Lets say it like it is: I have a collection of guns because it makes me happy. End of story.

Are you really suggesting that I can't enjoy my collection, just because it makes you feel uneasy for some reason?

Well guess what, I feel extremely uneasy that you probably own more than 1 pair of pants. The solution? Obviously, ban the ownership of more than 1 pair of pants per person.

a firearm is just another precaution.

Where i live it would take an average of 10 minutes for a officer to arrive. So we have emergency plans. we have ladders on the windows. windows that push out. a smoke/heat alarm system. We also keep a full first aid kit.

a gun is something if someone breaks in gives me something to protect them.

it's just another preccaution to take.

The reality is alot of people out there are not as responsible as u, and those are the people that also have easy access to guns & the ones we worry about.

I've never owned a gun in my life, nor has anyone i know (I'm in Toronto, Canada, getting a gun here legally is so difficult people just give up on it. The only time i used one was when i was in the military here & quite frankly what with all the cleaning involved after firing them for hours on end its boring as hell & i have no interest whatsoever in them, so as a hobby i just dont get it.

I don't get loud-ass motorcycles or smoking weed in your spare time, but you don't see me trying to ban everything I "don't get."

So are you going to back up any of these claims, or is this just what you think?

You are insinuating that people who own guns are paranoid and have mental health issues. Do you really think the best way to win an argument is to insult the opposition?

I don't want to insult no one...

Now,

WHY DO YOU NEED A GUN(for self-protection):
-Have you done something bad to someone, who could go after you with a gun?
-Do you live in high crime neighborhood - where from you can easily move out before you do need a gun....
There could be more questions...

The WHOLE US foreign policy is paranoid...not just ONE SINGLE CITIZEN...
MEDIA made americans paranoid...Terrorists - EVERYDAY want to attack US...

Terrorist attacking you anytime and everywhere?
9/11? Can someone tell, how WTC 7 fell down? No plane hit that tower...
Can you ask any pilot who flies Boeing 767 and ask, how is it possible to someone, who couldn't fly very good Cessna, could operate B-767?
Anyone have seen Cessna dash-board and what it could be to compare to B-767 dash-board?

Paranoia from every single citizen go up to White House - White House do need Gun Control.

People killed in Afganistan or Iraq? Isn't the same to ones killed in Connecticut?

MASS PARANOIA - quest for guns...

No, a firearm goes well beyond being 'just another precaution'.

BOOM goes your whole theory.

This is just an utterly bizarre mindset.

In the same post you'll have someone pretending that a gun is harmless and compare it to a pair of pants or a smoke detector, and then go on about needing it to protect themselves from the government, paedos and terrorists.

Make your mind up: a gun is either harmless, or it is deadly. It can't be both.

What is a bizarre mindset? That you can choose to do what you want to do, without the need of explaining yourself to the state?

I know, hard to imagine.
