So, let's say we all buy into the argument that we must ban certain guns immediately, particularly semi-automatic guns, because they have the potential to kill more people, more quickly.

Now, let's say the ban rids the world of these guns, at least in the hands of citizens. Now, for those that argued this logic, what happens at the next mass killing? The one that used an 8 clip pistol with 4 extra clips?

By default that scenario becomes the next "potential to kill more people, more quickly" than any other threat. So, now we need to ban that, right?

Do you people arguing with this logic see the slippery slope? Do you see the standard goes lower and lower each time you "ban" something?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The discussion that is necessary is

"How do we keep mentally ill people from firearms?"

Instead of engaging in a debate about something that no one will give on. Let's address what seems to be a common factor in mass shootings in the past few years.

just like the uk. ban guns, knife violence increases. band knives. baseball (i mean cricket) bat (or is it a club?) violence increases. Lets ban cricket bats or maybe only professional cricket players can own cricket bats?

No gun lover will ever get over this simple fact: a nutjob with a gun is more deadly than a nutjob without a gun.

And no anti-gun troll will ever get this simple fact: a nutjob will find a way to get guns even if all guns are banned.

Seriously are you proud of your ranking in that list? So you beat Cuba and there is no problem?

Concerned citizen: I am worried about the murder rate. I think too many innocent people are being killed.
Response: Chill out, we have a lower murder rate than Cuba.

Concerned citizen: I am worried about our health care system. I want to live a long life while being able to afford health care.
Response: We don't need to change anything, we've got a longer life expectancy than Cuba!

Concerned citizen: I am worried about taxes being too high. They are draining my ability to provide for my family.
Response: Taxes? You have lower taxes than Cuba. We don't need to lower taxes.

stop embarrassing yourself...sad

Just wanted to say that I popped into this thread to see how it got so long... judging by the last page of posts it seems pretty fucking retarded.

I never understood why M4, AR15s and similar weapons are sold to civilians, anybody else? (Apart from money leeching)

M4s are illegal. that is the military version of the Colt.

AR-15s are used for sport shooting as well as hunting and defense as well.
They can also be customized down to a .22 for economical shooting.

They are nothing that special other than looking cool.

There are plenty of other not as cool looking rifles that are also legal and can fire every bit as fast and accurate as the AR-15 and other "black rifles" that people seem to fear so much.
the reality is even at .223 ( small calibur with alot less stoping power than most hunting rifles. they are not even half as dangerous as the AKs with their 7.62 capabilities.
that round is devastating and really serves no civilian purpose.

Should .50 cal sniper rifles and true fully automatic weapons be in the public's hands hell no..
but the demonized AR-15 is not villain people think it is.

They're fun to shoot
High utility
Very easy to customize and have many options for customization so you can customize to very specific uses, such as hunting, marksmanship training, plinking, competition, home defense, etc
Because they can
They look like military weapons
Should we need to defend our country, we have the similar weapons to what the military uses

The mosin Nagant is far more lethal, cheaper, and has much better range and accuracy.

The civilian ar15 is the firearm equivalent of a Honda Civic with a fart pipe exhaust.

A real military issue M4 isn't readily available; when they do come up for sale, expect a long wait with the ATF and a $10,000 price tag.

The AR15 is simply a rifle platform. It's used for everything from varminting, target shooting (short and long range), competition shooting, etc. At its core, it's a semi-automatic rifle that takes detachable magazines.

Here is an AR15 platform rifle:

Here's another:

All this villification of "assault weapons" typically comes from people who know nothing about firearms or about gun crime statistics (2% of gun crime uses "assault weapons" and 0.5% of firearms-related homicides are from mass killings).

According to FBI statistics, last year 323 people were killed by rifles. In the same time period, 13,000 people were killed by drunk drivers.

Gun-control crowd is on a big streak of ignoring facts and offering unrealistic solutions. The last day or two. Incredible.

As I said, it's an absurdly low number.

The two other notorious school shootings (Columbine and VATech) involved no "assault rifles". VATech (the deadliest ever) involved .22LR and 9mm handguns.

An "assault weapons" ban is just a cosmetic piece of ineffective legislation designed to appease the anti-gun base that's riled up over a school shooting.

I'm hoping House GOP members do everything in their power to stop it.

But as of today, all the talk about potential bans has black rifle and hi-cap mag sales through the roof. Your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and other responsible long-time or first-time gun owners are all snatching up these items in record numbers.

All my local gun shops look like they've been robbed; bare shelves for rifles, accessories and ammo.

Any "assault weapons" legislation is going to grandfather in the 300 million firearms and untold number of hi-cap mags already in circulation.

Yeah, *le sigh*. And I was going to get another 1-2 lowers just so I could build a precision AR one of these days.

Also wanted to get a Glock 19. Oh well. :/

but he didn't and look at the chaos he still caused. could have killed the driver of the truck he was attacking and any number of innocent other drivers on those roads.

..and? No one died, no one as even injured. You are being Ironic and not even aware of it.

You don't have a clue. A pistol is a horrible horrible defensive tool. It's used because it's convenient to have on you. They are abismal man stoppers. Look at all the shootings where the perp took a half dozen or more rounds and was still fighting. The precision needed for a shot to take them out of the fight is a lot up to luck as much as skill. The would channel of a rifle round is a different story. Connect about anywhere on the torso and the bad guy is out of the fight. Rifles and shotguns always have been and always will be superior defensive tools than handguns.
