Ok, I'll check it out. Not really a Steve Carrell fan, but we'll see how it goes. Seeing him trying to be Ricky Gervais in the first season was painful; Gervais was so perfect in the UK show. Hopefully he makes the character his own in later seasons.

Carrell doesn't get better, the show is always painful when he's too much the center of things. By the second season they started letting the other characters carry more of the action, so it gets better. By the third season it's more Jim and Pam and they tone down Michael just a bit, so it's a lot better.

Yeah, he was almost unbearable in some of the season 1 episodes. Glad to hear he has a slightly lesser role in future seasons.

The character for Michael Scott is very complex. I disliked him a lot in the beginning but slowly but surely you realize that the character has a good side to him. He's very obnoxious, unreasonable and an ass at times but he comes off as a liked character. Its pretty complicated but Steve Carrell seems to pull it off. You really have to listen to the commentary that Michael Scott gives to the camera. He always says something genuine and then says something thats the complete opposite. Like he'll say 'Yeah, I'm the same old Michael Scott. New and improved'.

Hahah yeah Dwight is awesome... Micheal Scott is just ridiculous. I can wait for it the season premiere.

I prefer US version by a wide margin. I do really miss some of the stuff Garrett used to do, though. Ricky Gervais is still superior to Steve Carrell in the role, but the other characters make up for it.

Been watching it since the beginning. Tried it out simply because it featured Carell. It's my favoritest show.
One of the only scripted shows I watch.

You'd think a show named 'The Office' would be the most boring imaginable, but it is not.

I tried watching the UK version once (thanks stage6.divx.com!) and couldn't make it through an entire episode ... it was that awful. So amateurish by comparison. Of course it was hard to understand with the thick accent, but none of the characters seemed sincere or believable. I can assure my fellow US viewers they aren't missing anything.

The characters were much better in the UK version. They actually felt real and genuine, unlike what I've seen so far in the US version.

However I'll reserve final judgement until I've watched some of season 2 though.

UK Office FTMFW.

Watching the US version makes me cringe. It?s a shoddy rip-off.

Sorry, but it's true.

I do not like The Office and wish people would stop acting like it's such a hilariously funny show. The acting is obnoxious, the humor is forced, and the camera movements are reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project. Of course this is just my impression of the US version.

And please... ENOUGH with the 'that's what she said' quotes, or can the show not come up with something original on its own?

The only characters that feel real in either version are Jim / Tim and occasionally (usually not) Pam / Dawn.

Maybe Stanley in the US version, once in a while.

Oh and repost.

Sorry. The US version is a zillion times better than the UK version. I've watched both many times and the only series that I find myself watching more is the US version.

Um, no, you're wrong. Sorry to break it to you.

KT

Season 1 of the Office (US) was bad, but it has gotten immeasurably better and now exceeds the UK version.

It?s supposed to be a fly-on-the-wall documentary.

Both are written brilliantly. The UK might even have an edge since they can use adult language and talk like normal people. However, the supporting cast in the US has really developed nicely.
