I would vote CoH but there's no end game, and they just dorked all the powers rather than deal with the real game issues... =[

Age of Empires 2!! It may be old, but IMO its still one of the best RTS's out there! If ensemble where smart, they'd drop all this 3d &%*& they're doing, and just remake AOK with all them annoying little bugs fixed, and some nice 2d graphics

Dunno about everyone else, but IMO 2d RTS games pwn 3d RTS's. Admittedly AOE3 is looking good, but the middle ages are much more interesting than the british conquest of the North.

Just FYI for those that mentioned CoH, I just recently quit. It got really boring after I hit 38.

Quit after having 3 50s. The game was fun, just nothing to do at the end. The also didn't address mob stacking and poor AI issues, so they just made everything weaker across the board(players and enemies).

I've been playing WoW lately and I've been digging that. Though I'm not sure if you care for more grinding action. That is the only folly of recent RPGs, the pain of progression.

I had a lot of fun with CoH while it lasted, but it was just so much of a pain to level after a certain point that I just stopped caring. Instead of doing missions that should have been fun, I ended up just teaming up with a friend who was 7 levels higher than me and hitting comm officers because I'd get a mish bonus amount of experience in less than ten minutes. If I never found those guys, I may have kept enjoying it but the grind would have been even worse... if that's possible.

Even though I don't have that high of characters in CoH, I do notice its starting to get boring trying to level up. It seems all the classes except the blaster class got nerfed bit time in the last update. Hopefully City of Villians makes it interesting again.

I'm glad Ensemble isn't living in the past like you wish they were. 3D looks much better to me for RTS.

Anyone remember midtown madness 2? Cruise mode in san francisco is amazing, especially with a vehicle editor that makes cars go 500mph. Why so fun? I dont know. It's almost like katamari damacy - bad graphics and repetetive gameplay but you just cant stop playing it.

it's not terribly new but it's a great game for small LAN parties with freinds and such: Command and Conquer - Zero Hour

Second that. Also Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots is a good one, but with a steeper learning curve than C&C.

edit: And while we are on older RTS games, Ground Control II is another great one for LAN parties, even ran on an old Radeon 7200

If RTSes are you poison, Dawn of War and its expansion, Winter Assault are a hoot to play.

I dont think I'll ever tire of hearing some of the unit remarks, its like WC3 in that respect.

It's a bit overpriced in relation to this thread, but that game is friggin sick! It's warhammer for those who can't shell out $200+ and the time to paint.

My favorite multiplayer games have been:

Age of Empires I and II
EverQuest (Man, I was addicted to this for around 2 years, SoL ruined it)
Counter-Strike
World of Warcraft (1 year and going strong!)
Day of Defeat: Source (New, but I've been loving it since release, even with the limited retail maps!)

Take care!

One of my favorite classes is the covert ops. It's a blast to kill an enemy, steal his uniform and start wreaking havoc with your knife behind enemy lines.

hah! I agree.

That was the on time I actually wrote up a whitepaper for anything for fun.

My name was Im_Not_Really_On_Your_Team on there and I did nothing but Covert Ops.

That sten is just like a rail gun. It was super accurate and pretty quiet. You just head to hs most people.

I remember I wrote like a 6 page whitepaper on how to completely dominate the game as a covert ops. It covered EVERYTHING from distraction tactics to locating stragglers with sound to routes around compounds that you can go and completel and spot everysingle friggin mine etc.

Seriously I was disgusting at it. I put in waaaay too much time playing that one.

I completed the paper, then I sat back and was like "wooooh, getting a little too serious ehh? That was fun..." And I deleted the whole paper like an idiot.

I soooo wish I still had it.
