Oh, are we assuming these are all non-tobacco user rates? That's what I posted, tobacco user rates are higher of course.

lol gotta love how tobacco is now outcasted as bastard childs - but drinking excessively? A-Okay! Definitely not higher probability of issues....

As we have our own business, I supply insurance to my employees. I use BCBS Simply Blue PPO plans. I'm trying to remember the number but you need around 150 full time equivalent employees before they look at anything besides the age of the enrolled employees. So my rates are adjusted through inflation and just age pool.

I offer 3 plans and their pricing to me is as such

SB 1000/0% - 520/m
SB 1500/Blue RX - 465/m
SB HSA 6350 - 325/m

I pay around 52-54% of the premium on the first two plans and about 64% on the last one. Family plans cap out at 3x the original premium amount. My SB 1000 plan is very close to a 90/10 plan. The 1500 is a bit better than an 80/20 plan in coverage but the medication is only agreed rates. The 6350 is a trash plan I have to have to meet affordability requirements.

Today is the last day to sign up for 2021.

I chose Kaiser Bronze $6,500/40%/HSA plan.
Will pay $1,050 a month for 3 of us. I briefly entertained the thought of self-insuring since the penalty is gone but ultimately decided against it.

surprisingly my health insurance only went up 6% this year.
It costs me $1,200 a month for a family of 4. Entire premium (including employer's portion) is $2,670.50

The costs of health insurance are just criminal at this point. The numbers are insane.

The fastest way we could reform health insurance is if we took away health insurance from Congress members and gave them the same insurance choices we have. But as long as they have the best health insurance you can buy for free and we have to pay, nothing will get done.

Personally, I'm in favor of adopting the Medicare coverage for the entire US population and not just for seniors age 65 years and up. Why should seniors get good insurance for cheap while we get stuck with the bill and pay ripoff prices for shitty health insurance? I would love to have something like Medicare coverage right now.

Completed the employee enrollment/sign up recently. Thankfully, the cost for healthcare is stable for next year. Who knows how much it will go up after the covid mess is over.

Wife and myself are on Medicare.....$145/mo each for M'care (total of $290). Then we pay $178/mo total for supplement M'care ins.--about evenly split between the two of us, although mine is about $8 more than hers for the same policy from the same company. Family discount and female discount.

End up with essentially nothing to pay outside the premiums....no deductibles to pay at all. We do have a $10 co-pay for MD's office visits but that's it.....oh, and a potential $50 co-pay for ER visits that don't result in an admission (policy says "up to $50 co-pay"...but that's probably just another way to say $50 co-pay, period.) Other than those co-pays, we have nothing else to pay.

Curiously active thread...

Looks like a good place to complain.

I pay nearly 12% of my income for ZERO coverage.

Since I'm unemployed I'm not eligible for low income options.

Thanks government, for punishing the poorest so they can never rise up.

Not for me, government has their hands in my account.

Even if you can close the account or find other ways to dodge them, they keep track of you (SSN etc) and increase the penalty percentage for every month you don't pay. If/when they find you then you will have to pay back everything at the highest penalty percentage plus whatever interest/fees they decide plus the higher penalty for life or until you can prove sufficient insurance coverage.

People do like telling me I'm wrong, but I keep all the paperwork they send me to prove it.

I think I'm in one of those special case categories. I have no real "job", but still a tiny income.
Most people with any kind of income have a job, so they're free (under "low income" rules).
No job or income also seems to be a way out, I think then it's always considered homeless.

Did you check for federal subsidy eligibility? Or Medicaid?

Yes, I have looked into available programs.

My state runs it's own medical plan, which prevents anybody from using Medicaid.

I'm not eligible for my states low income healthcare.

Since I can buy insurance on the "open market" I'm technically not being denied coverage.

As it should be since you've spent 40+ years paying into the system. Same for all elderly, meds, kids, education system (25th in the world), homeless, hungry, mentally helpless/handicapped, welfare checks....way before we spend a fucking dime elsewhere.

Nationalism is not a bad word.

My mom started Medicare this year. And it's been great. So why not offer that for everyone? We don't have to reinvent the wheel. We have Medicare which clearly works. Use that as the template to nationalize healthcare.

That's exactly what Democrats want to do. Add a public option so anyone can buy into a Medicare type plan if they want to. Republicans will never let that happen - they just call it Socialism or Marxism and their dumb voters nod knowingly even though it would benefit most of them.

My wife retires next year, we are looking at $1250 per month, with an $12k out of pocket deductible in Washington state. Even after you hit that deductible you pay additional fees to see specialists. I've actually considered having surgery to replace a second hip (the first was done in 2017) while under our current insurance, even though I could probably go another 2-3 years...fucking absurd to have to make healthcare decisions based on insurance coverage.

We need a single payer solution, like the rest of the developed world. US prices are 2x what they should be.

No, both parties suck donkey balls and let lobbyist write the healthcare laws. Of course the health insurance companies, doctors, hospitals, and big Pharma are all going to add their shit and create crap private plans. These companies and lobbyists don't want Medicare and Medicaid type plans. It's in their interest to give us shit plans that cost a fortune.

These shit health plans are why I get medical care outside the US even though I have US health insurance. It's cheaper for me to pay cash price for health care in South Korea with no insurance than with insurance in the US. It's absurd. And the care I get in South Korea is higher quality than the care I get in the US. Seriously, I might skip US health insurance in 2022 and just go to South Korea if I need any medical care.

Both parties do suck but only one party sucks a lot less. And that party wants to give people access to a public option, aka buying into Medicare. A few candidates wanted Medicare for all, but pretty much all wanted a public option at least. As Mayor Pete put it, Medicare for those who want it. No Republican wants that. The Dems got 1 vote away from extending a Medicare option an additional 10 years younger, to 55 years old, back when the ACA was enacted, but Joe Lieberman wouldn't do it. But every other Dem would have voted for it along with zero Republicans.

I could see a Dem senator not voting for a public option, like Manchin. But the others would. Zero Republicans would. Ever.

Glad you can fly to South Korea to get medical care. Most of us can't be medical tourists to Asian countries.
