Its also possible to connect the fan directly the cards fan header to get dynamic control and a cleaner install. It dose require a slight modification to either the card or VF-900 however.
If you?re interested I can provide details.
I would be interested in doing this mod. I would prefer modding the Zlaman instead of the card.
Method 1 (involves a soldering iron), modifying the VF-700/900 basically involves swapping the fan header on the Zalman with the fan header from the stock HS/F so you can directly connect it to the graphics card. Step one involves cutting the fan headers off both cards, you can make the cut anywhere you want but you'll want to leave enough room to easily work and possible mistakes.
Once you remove both headers you'll want to strip the wires on both ends you want to connect. Next you want to solder the connectors together making sure you get the wires correct - or ground to - and + to + (ground is almost always black). Lastly you'll want to use electrical tape to isolate the solder points. Alternately you can use heat shrink tubing (recommended) just remember that it has to go on the wire before you do the soldering since it most likely won't fit over the fan header.
Method 2 modifying the card is much simpler. All you have to do is essentially remove the plastic housing on the GPU fan header to expose the bare pins that connect to the fan. Once you have the plastic housing removed you should be able to simply slide the Zalman?s 3 pin over the expose pins. Although this method is much easier I?m not sure how widely compatible it is, but many have successfully done it.
