I've been up in the mountains in freezing weather and food alone allowed me to do what I needed there.

Sure, as have I. I actually missed the Warm Doublet for quite awhile into the game, so had to rely on food. There are levels of cold and hot, though. Low, medium, high. Standing next to lava in a volcano requires more protection than being in a desert.

Is there a way to adjust the brightness/gamma in the game, or should I set it manually on my projector? My wife and daughters have been playing the game a lot and really enjoy it, but the glare in the desert during the day is so bright that it's almost impossible to see anything. Realistically, it SHOULD be bright in a desert in the middle of the day, but not that bright. Every other area seems fine so maybe it's just intentionally obnoxious in the desert areas?

Boo! I only have like 8 hearts and yet already shrines are seemingly becoming harder to find. Gone are the days when I could just climb up a new watch tower and see 3-4 shrines off in the distance. Now I'm at a point where I rarely see any from up high.

Yeah, definitely can't rely on that forever. There's some that are hidden completely until you solve a puzzle.

Have you spent any on Stamina upgrades? There's a place you can convert them to hearts instead.

Yea I tried going up Lanayru Mountain
and my Warm Doublet alone wasn't enough protection so I had to take an elixir.

My wife has 16 hearts and two full stamina rings, so you'll get there..

She has found quite a few shrines while doing other quests, or just randomly exploring looking for things that look interesting, and listening for the "radar" beep along the way. As Nashemon said, there are also a bunch that are hidden until you complete a mini quest. Look for people in the towns and at the stables that want to talk. Also look for people standing in seemingly random places along the roads. They'll frequently give you hints/directions to find something good.

Something about hearing the Farosh (dragon) music and seeing him ascend into the cloud portal is oddly satisfying...

My biggest problem is I need a damn weapon that doesn't break after a half dozen hits.

I think they're subtly nudging us into defeating enemies without the conventional hack and slash by using your skills instead. (You'll notice there are always metal crates in moblin camps you can use with your magnet, along with things you can time freeze) Another tactic is to drop a bomb parallel to a red explosive barrel and use a leaf weapon to blow it towards it. Boom! Also in a pinch I'll drop a bomb when I'm running away from something and I detonate it as they chase me. Sometimes if they're right on my tail I'll throw the bomb forwards instead, then dash ahead of it and detonate the bomb under the pursuer as soon as I'm clear of the blast zone.

Long story short, a lot of situations can be cleared without whipping out your sword.

I was in Walmart and I saw this today.

I was instantly drawn to it and thought about getting it, but didn't see a price so I went up to the nice lady with violet highlights in electronics to price check it. It was $15, which was more then I wanted to pay for such a trinket with the finances being what they are, but I was surprised at how much of a Zelda nut she was.

I wondered aloud how big it was without the box padding and she opened it up right then and there because she was thinking of getting one herself! I asked her if she was a big Zelda fan and she enthusiastically said yes and that she had gone so far as to name her own son "Link"! I was almost taken aback. Sheesh. And Here I thought "I" was a hardcore fan!

Hey, wait a second. I already had a thread for the game! You even posted in it, @KentState . Why you gotta be like this, acting like there wasn't already a dedicated thread.

Anyways, this game is pretty great. I haven't finished it yet though, and it would be pretty superfluous to add my voice to the chorus of people singing its praises. Instead, I want to take a moment to recount something I noticed on a run to Target a week ago. I swung by the video game section to see what Switch accessories they had in stock. Predictably, they were cleaned out of anything I'd be interested in buying, no surprise there. But they did have a big display for the Switch, not with a playable demo unit, but just a big screen that was playing all the advertisements and trailers. A mom and a bunch of kids were standing by it, watching the Switch presentation launch trailer for the game. They were all watching it with interest, but there was this one little boy -- he must have been 6 or 7 -- who was standing close, looking up, watching with his jaw agape, completely transfixed. And it was in that moment that I saw the future generation of Zelda fans, of Nintendo fans.

Breath of the Wild is the Next Big Thing, not just for older gamers who appreciate the game design on a more complex level, but also for the kids who can be fickle with what they enjoy and spend their time (and their parents' money on). The Wii U never had the Next Big Thing. The closest they got was Smash Bros, and while that has a very strong, devoted fanbase, it's still a niche fanbase. And Zelda hasn't been the Next Big Thing since Ocarina of Time. Since then, it's been kind of niche. Breath of the Wild is not going to be niche. It's going to be the breakout hit that not only everyone knows about, but everyone has played or at least seen someone playing. Brings a tear to my eye...

In all seriousness though, the game is great. And I'm on the go a lot for my job, so even though I already owned a Wii U, the Switch was definitely worth the purchase just for this game.

Robin Williams named his daughter "Zelda" because he was a huge fan of the game.

Yep, heard she did a let's play for charity. Zelda seems a bit more plausible because that's an actual name that has existed for ages. "Link", seems a little more unique.

Yeah, Zelda is a real name (series creator Shigeru Miyamoto actually took it from the name of the novelist Zelda Fitzgerald). Link, not so much. But I can see someone having that name in either case.

Finally found an 8-Bit Link today. Man these Amiibo are constantly sold out everywhere. I should have anticipated before hand but oh well.

I was fortunate. I saw it was on sale for $9 at walmart.com when looking for something to buy with a giftcard there and figured "eh, why not". So glad I did in hindsight.

They are crazy expensive now if you want to buy one and not try to hunt one down. On Amazon, basically any Legend of Zelda amiibo are double the price or more.

Yeah, I hear some are going for upwards of $50. I always planned to get the windwaker two pack when I could find one at Best Buy because of my GCU but they never materialized and I suppose never will. The only Amiibo I sorely wished I had that I don't is the one that gives you Epona. I never bothered with that one when it was available because it was so similar to my one of OOT Link where he's playing the Ocarina.
