With what I was told: Per clock, Zen 5 has HIGHER IPC than Apple latest CPU P cores.

AMD will have something to compete with Apple and Qualcomm, not just Intel, apparently.
One could say that Apple reached this level of IPC 4 years ago.
At the same time, they have been unable to make their cores clock worth a damn. So if the thing is an Everest @ 5.7+ GHz...damn

Sounds too good to be true, but we'll know everything soon enough.

So what is consensus on the release date. I read somewhere that AMD had to do n extra respin to hit their internal targets (idk for sure). Does that mean a June release? Thanks.

Reaching Apple's IPC level does not guarantee reaching Apple's efficiency level.

I'm guessing that the rollout will be similar to the past few generations where it'll be closer to the end of the year, or maybe into the next before the lower half of the product stack gets released.

I think a lot of people will also want to hold out for a v-cache version and it's hard to peg down when those will release. I could also see AMD holding those back until RDNA4 GPUs are ready to drop.

That to make makes the launch seem a bit lack luster just because the product I really want isn't available. On the plus side at least there will be far fewer teething issues when they do eventually come out.

It's the best CPU design team out there and they had to leash off the area.
Well, QCom's SOC has thernal design of up to 80W.
nyo, that's system (ergo wall) power.
the actual SOC without mem is probably 65W or so.
and no one ships higher power Hamoa configs anyway, they're memey.
When do you guys think Strix Halo reaches laptop OEMs
CES'25.
like at least 6 months later from being a niche product line?
It's inherently a niche product line.
the iGP is PS5-sized with MALL but less membw, and oh, 16 whole zen5s.
snazz.

Most of these are in ZEN4s Benchmarks as well, and even the figures are kinda lining up: Fortnite, Passmark way below average, Cinebench slightly below, 7-Zip exactly average, V-Ray slightly above, Dolphin and WPrime way above average. So expected ZEN5 IPC avg 25-30%.

We already saw that AMD makes their claims so that they line up with SPEC and I can't deny that, ZEN3 however doesn't get these results in most other Applications, and since ZEN5s claimed SPEC result seems to be 40%+ it looks like it's the same again.

Isn't it possible that All The Watts only took the official numbers for these programs from the Zen 4 presentation and just adjusted them proportionaly based on the 20% number from Xinoassassin? The tweet appeared after his one, no?

Edit: yeah, april 1st too, but the point is - in the post admitting it's joke ATW still implies he knows the IPC or performance and it is in reality even bigger. However, if he came up with the numbers like this, that could mean he doesn't have specific information so that would mean his "it's even higher" should not be taken for granted.

The first bunch of Zen 5 based products will be MCMs with 4nm chips. So there is that.

On the other hand, what has Apple's efficiency level lately been in segments such as 5 GHz desktops or 128 core servers?

Well it does, you just need to clock it Apple clocks and not 6GHz. lol. lmao.

None.
M2 Extreme was literally a dead on arrival part with major scaling issues.

Desktop Zen 5?

I suspect it will be released within month (or so) of the announcement. Unless it is just one of the vague announcements with no data.

If it is a full announcement at Computex, and if Zen 5 delivers what people hope it will, there would be no point in holding it back for too long and tanking sales from Zen 4 (with no Zen 5 on the shelves)
