Long time lurker here that can't seem to get the details right for his old account. lol.

I was one of the fools hanging around hoping that Bulldozer was actually going to bulldoze. ha!

I am upgrading from my e7200 to the just recently available in retail, 960T zosma chip. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...3995&Tpk=zosma I figure its a cheap upgrade and my board will support Piledriver when there is actually more software in the market to make use of the Bulldozer architecture.

I have a Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3, and the 212Evo heatsink/fan combo and the Zosma chip should be pulling in the yard in the next day or two with the Purolator guy.

Do you guys have any suggestions for settings or requests for info once I get it up and running?

Unlock results and system settings and temps you end up at for 24/7 operation (ambient temps would be nice).

The 940T may or may not unlock as often as the 960T. I say this because lately the Phenom II X2 560 seems to unlock a lot more often than the 550

My bad. In the title I previously wrote that I was getting the 940T. Its actually the 960T. I also fixed the link to the newegg.ca listing.

I'm curious to see if it unlocks but I'm not expecting it to. I figure if I can just overclock the 4 cores to maybe 3.4-3.5ghz with the cooler I bought that would be good.

My guess and its only a guess is that AMD wanted to clear out stock of their Thubans to make way for a single line up of Bulldozer based chips asap so that's why these Zosma's are finally hitting retail. The delayed Zambezi launch would also explain why the Zosma's were pulled from their scheduled retail last year. All just pure speculation on my part.

They disabled the two extra cores because they didn't want it to outperform the 8150.

4 cores at 4GHz at 1.27 volts is pretty incredible. I'm running 3 cores at 3.6GHz at 1.52V right now.

AMD wanted a shift away from unlocking cores, forget long ago read article. I don't think any of the new 9 series AMD boards feature any unlocking bios/ switches options, like older models.
Also BD is not going to be unlockable.

Running a 3 core Phenom II x2 on my GA990FX-UD3. Granted it took a few bios revisions for unlocking to work reasonably well, I'm on the F4 bios for my board. Heavily considering picking up one of these Zosmas to tide me over for Ivybridge/Piledriver. If Ivybridge comes out before Piledriver in 6 core variant and tests well I'm going to switch to it for my personal computing. This 990FX can become a VM workhorse at that point, can always pop in Piledriver if it turns out decent.

If it does come out it will likely be for the S2011 platform and have a price somewhere in the area of $600

If you have a kill-a-watt meter i'd be most interested in your power draw readings idle/load
also what PSU are you using ?

OP I look forward to hearing from you in terms of whether or not you are able to unlock the extra cores on the chip.

I'm biding my time personally. Once a hexacore hits around $100 I'll probably drop one into my rig.

I think I still would prefer a BD to a Zosma, assuming they bring the prices WAY down. I might just get rid of my desktop entirely though and go laptop only.

Ugh.

I got my 960T tonight. Not having much luck with it so far. It doesn't even show any extra cores as being able to unlock, and the system becomes unstable when I run the core unlocker. This is on a Sabertooth 990FX. This processor isn't showing as supported yet by ASUS either.

Not really having much luck overclocking it either yet, I'll try again this weekend on a different drive - I can't afford to screw with my current install as it has all of my work programs and data.

One plus is that the voltage is way down from my C3's - 1.2 volts stock.

Drizek - looks like I should have applied the $$'s to a BD as well

Living here on the east coast of Canada (small town in Nova Scotia) there seems to be little to no difference with Purolator expediated shipping or regular shipping. I placed my order late Tuesday evening...it shipped out on Wednesday and its Saturday morning and its still not here.

If you ever see me in here talking about a hardware upgrade remind me about last experience with 'fast' shipping. /sigh.

Info to follow as soon as I get the 960T actually in my hands and the system up and running.

odd.

I'm in Fredericton, NB. When I choose Express Purolator from Newegg.ca or NCIX.com, I get it within 1-2 days. (NCIX is often the next day, Newegg is almost always 2 days since it comes from Eddison, NJ, USA)

This cpu is registering 4GHz @ 1.27V might be my next upgrade since my AM3+ motherboard can only support 95watters and its a Black editon.

@eternalone where did u see it running @ 4ghz?

@allan id love to see your max stable oc on 4 cores with some benches

if x6's can hit 3.9-4.1 then surely this x4 thuban can go higher right? less watts than x6, also should oc higher than deneb as the tdp of those are 125-140w? i'm looking for best quad amd has to offer after oc. also curious how the unlocked a8-3870K will perform oc'd
