Hi, I just built a new machine (with i5 2500K, yes, using onboard graphic for now) and I'm currently waiting on the Radeon HD 7xxx to come out. While waiting, this GeForce GTS 250 is currently on sale for $40. Would this be a good temporary card?

Thanks!

Would I be better off getting a 5570 or 5670?

Nope but a 5770/6770 would be a better option and a bit faster and it supports dx11 but maybe out of your price tag.

For $40 as a hold me over card a gts 250 can't be beat heck at that price i would buy two and put one away in case you ever need to rma a card or need to test out a potentially bad card .

Is that sale online somewhere? Others could benefit from it.

Yes, it's on NCIX.ca site: http://ncix.ca/products/index.php?sk...c&promoid=1282

The only thing I'm thinking is that it's the brand. Never used any Zotac product. I'm looking for a filler card maybe around the $50 range lol
Not a good idea. It's 65nm and runs hot as hell so it's not a true 9800GTX+. I know because I bought one and then returned it because it wasn't 55nm. It idled at not less than 55C and I have an antec 300 with a Panaflo 120 U1A exhaust.

its a gts250 so how could it not be 55nm. a gts250 1gb was revised 9800gtx+ which was already 55nm. 65nm g92 production had stopped long before the gts250 was even introduced. that clearly looks like the reference gts250 1gb low power pcb which would likely not be possible to use with the old 65nm gpu anyway. in fact that is their "eco" model and it has only one 6 pin connector which would make even less sense for it to be using an old 65nm pre 9800gtx+ g92 core.

Maybe it was something else I tried out as the one I had had an 8 pin power connector. I didn't look at the link the OP provided.

Just to update, I bought a 5670 linked below for $45 after MIR.

http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=60745&vpn=HD567XZNL3&manufacture=XFX

After thinking for a while, I made the decision based on the following:
- HD 5670 be a bit slower than GTS 250 but as it supports DX 11 so it would be a better filler card for the time being rather than the GTS 250.
- 5670 is based on 40nm while GTS 250 is a 56nm, kind of a prev gen product, also 5670 would have better efficiency when compared to GTS 250. Less heat -> quieter -> less power (no PCIe power cable needed)
- Although it's only GDDR3 version (GTS 250 also use GDDR3), so it does not really matter when comparing to GTS 250. I am only using this as I'm waiting for the HD 7xxx and maybe in the future as a back up card, so GDDR5 ver is not needed, save the money for the next card!
- Most importantly, GTS 250 is out of stock! Getting 5670 allows me to game sooner

Thanks for everyone's contribution

Not worthy IMO, won't do much more over the IGP to justify $40 when you're going to get a high end card at the end of the day.
