Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

The cores must have same instruction set architecture, otherwise AMD will end up like Intel disabling features of big core. For IO die, they can use a low power 4 core APU added with more IO paths.

Unfortunately 8 core is the maximum for now. But my work laptop is only 4 cores 8 Thread Intel and it is pain to use compared with my PC 5950X. No idea about the sticker.

I also do software development as profession as well as hobby, you can certainly work with 4 cores but is it a torture especially if you are used to 8+ cores. You can run few services remotely to ease the local load, but running all of them locally improves productivity (otherwise when you fix a...

Non gaming enterprise software development? I know many use Laptops for software development, but a powerful multi-core CPU makes a big difference in productivity.

These software (both written in Java & .Net) scales well with HT, can get over 50% performance from HT.

Poll: Do you care about ray tracing / upscaling?

True, but there will be someone do the hard work and share the trained models for the rest of us. Another option, give a story book (like holo-deck programming) and ask AI to create a game out of it.

Poll: Do you care about ray tracing / upscaling?

How about something like Write a driving simulator game using following ideas 1. Use street view and maps from area x1y1 to x2y2 as base for the world view 2. 5 Difficulty levels 3. Sim categories, classic cars, sports cars, futuristic cars.... 4. NPC keeps its memory from previous rounds 5...

Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

In AMD terms, Dispatch = Macro Ops, For Zen4, in theory for 6 Dispatches there can be up to 12 micro ops. Zen4 can have peek execution of 14 micro ops. It won't be sustainable of course, bottle necked by front and back end. In addition to this, few instructions can be resolved within...

Poll: Do you care about ray tracing / upscaling?

While we are waiting for true full ray tracing, what if the future games are fully AI generated and controlled? It maybe possible in 10 years to get this inside regular PCs . https://openai.com/sora

    Question ANTS ATE MY GPU!

I think it is from small non venomous wasp. They build nest using clay. I think the moisture from the clay, destroys the tracings little by little.

    Question ANTS ATE MY GPU!

Ants usually hate heat, should put the pc into stress test mode to generate heat. Both CPU & GPU should be able fry these ants easily :). I also seen motherboards got damaged due to Wasp nest.

Discussion [IPC] Instructions per cycle - How we measure, interpret and apply this metric for modern computing systems

I am certainly not confused by the term and I am very much aware what exactly it means. I also really hate the misuse of the term IPC. But the true IPC is very valuable to compare different processor architectures and find out its strengths and weaknesses. The true IPC can be found in sites like...

Discussion [IPC] Instructions per cycle - How we measure, interpret and apply this metric for modern computing systems

IPC is not a constant. It can very depend on the type application. Theoretical IPC is never achieved in any of the software. Zen4 for example has theoretical IPC of 6. But it would never achieve that due to various constraints, mainly not enough architectural registers and memory bottleneck. It...

Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

I am sure you know why, for one I was not member of this forum at that time, secondly why should I care about Intel? Out of 25 years of my PC use I only bought Intel CPU (e7200) once and that was nearly 15 years ago. Why should I? I think you guys are missing the point.
