North Americans buy pickups as grocery getters. Don't ask me why.

They mostly stopped making real work trucks, that's why. So it's basically the closest thing you get to a truck now days unless you go commercial grade. But I still don't get how people justify the cost of trucks now even the gas ones now are insane.

When my current truck dies I might actually consider a used mini van, as it will actually have more cargo space than what they call trucks now, without being a monstrosity.

What would be cool is if they made something similar to those Japanese kei trucks but electric and maybe only SLIGHTLY bigger to get a full 8' box and bigger wheels but keep cab the same style. I don't know who's idea it was that a truck needs to be able to sit a whole football team.

That seems like a pain in the arse! I tend to use the smallest vehicle I can that works for the task. It's a lot easier to take my mini into the city than it is to take the family car in!
NA has more land so the roads tend to be wider than UK. Even the old parts of NA is relatively new compared to Europe.

See id have thought that you'd be the Ideal candidate for some sort of compact car. You're not married with kids so you don't have to haul a bunch of muddy children to and from sports events, you commute to an IT job so you aren't hauling a ton of tools and building supplies around day to day, you live in the frozen north so you probably have to shovel ice, snow and polar bears out of the bed of any truck you want to use, and you complain about fuel costs a lot!

I haul a materials regularly and go in the bush a lot though so I do need the truck. In an ideal situation I would have both, but then I have to pay 2x insurance so there's no financial savings.

I could get a small car with a trailer hitch though, that's also an option. As long as I have enough ground clearance for in the bush so I'd want something with a slight lift. Even if I went the mini van route it's something I'd have to consider. A small SUV and a 4x8 trailer might actually be a better option now that I think about it.

Because we like to just build big, sprawling spaces with huge parking lots in the US instead of more human-sized infrastructure, and lots of people have it in their head that they are going to be buying a refrigerator every week or some other absurd situation that justifies getting something big.

I get that but it still seems pointless to haul a load of vehicle around that isn't serving any purpose for a trip into the city!
Nobody said Muricans are rational actors. They elected Trump once, and he's got a puncher's chance again in November.

God help us all. (To stay on topic, Trump has been telling his voters to buy ICE because BEVs are unAmerican. )

its probably environmental contamination, happens with all finishes. you may be able to see it more on the stainless. though, people that buy these have probably never hand washed a car in their life.

Wow I would have figured the stainless steel would be better than regular steel.
Well the regular steel is coated in anti rust stuff, layers of paint and clear coat! AFAIK the steel on the Cybertruck is just raw. I doubt that it's going to rust through though (unless some funky galvanic corrosion happens) but it's not going to look as pretty as a painted surface.
