Official airshow is Saturday/Sunday but they did a full practice today. For today, we were able to shoot from the west side of the runway (with the sun behind us) but for the actual show on the base, the spectators will be on the east side of the runway (so you will be taking pics into the sun so the planes will be backlit - basically not ideal for taking pictures) and the areas west of the runway will be closed off to the public (the cops will run you off)....

Is #4 in part 2 a T38 Talon? I had to look it up and the T38 doesn't have those pods at the wing tips. Also learned that the T38 is visually similar to an F5x

Sony A1 with a 200-600 lens...it's not a bad setup
A super telephoto is going to be my next purchase. Just trying to not break the bank so that probably means Tamron or Sigma. I love my Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 but i need to dial in the focusing a bit better.

CAD1100 is very tempting for the Sigma, free shipping direct from them as well... hummm

Thank you for taking the time to get those pictures. The show pictures are not worth taking, into the sun. These are great!!
I use DxO for my post processing and they have an option for backlit photos...I think it does a pretty good job...

Raw image from Saturday afternoon shooting into the sun looks like this:

It's an F5A two seater.
Those were the jets that the astronauts hooned around in, and they are a handful. They lacked any modern avionics even for the day.

those things are dead sexy.
First flown in 1959, they seem timeless.
it is a real shame the f-20 tigershark never got a chance to take off. basically a f5 with modern avionics and fbw, the GE f404, dirt cheap, and easy to fly. it would have been the the gripen only 15 years early.
if they got enough foreign contracts the line would still be up and we would have a viable option for a cheap tested trainer with avionics relevant to 5th gen.

I love stuff like this. I grew up in the 50s and 60s on/around USAF bases...every year we went to the Armed Forces Day air shows...plus, living on base, we got to see a plethora of cool aircraft (prop and jet) coming and going.

Our farm was a few miles west of the Firing Center in Yakima.
During the Viet Nam war, we were treated with gigantic loose formations of Hueys and C130 going to and from Ft Lewis and Mchord AFB.
They would fly over maybe 2000' up at the most, descending for a landing out in the dust.

I am about to do a crash-course in photography at my work. I have a picture that, at first glance, appears nearly black and white with very little color. Then I show the post-processed picture, and it's shocking how much color information can be pulled out of the shadows.

I’m an AIr Force brat, retired A&P, and certified aviation junkie. Loved sj’s pics here!

Here’s my meager contribution from yesterday’s Thunder Over Louisville. Shitty cell phone pics of the local TV broadcast.

I stumbled onto some aviation on a mission to the NE part of the state.
We went up Saturday to ask the neighbor if we could turn the semi trucks around on his property, to get a better run at a switchback corner.
Neighbor had a 300' useable runway and a hangar.

We get to BSing as pilots are wont to do, and he shows me what can use it.
Just Aviation Super STOL

Equipped with automatic leading edge slats and spoilers to mitigate adverse yaw at slow speeds.

The trucks could not use that route into the property, and I spotted this 310Q out in what looks like a pasture.

After further inspection it was a grass runway that is really no longer being used. It has a big hangar and a defunct Twin Bonanza, ex Army out in front.

I have no more pictures but plenty of bloggy stuff.
The old guy with the Super STOL had quite the story of a career.
