Hi everyone,

Anybody got any ideas how to fix this please? My max FPS are great It's my 1% lows that go down to 6FPS on times making my games stutter like mad I've just done a reinstall of windows and on the latest chipset/Video/audio drivers

It's the same if I play at 1080p/1440p/2160p

My Specs are

5800x stock
32gb C16 3600MHz
Gigabyte X570 Gaming X
MSI RTX 4070
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB M.2
Corsair 850w Gold

Thanks.

What are your temperature readings for key components when idle and under 100% load? How old is this build and has it always had this problem?

My temps are great GPU at load hits around 60/65 degrees and my CPU is around 55 degrees in game. I bought the 5800x 2 years ago when I upgraded from a Ryzen 3600 Paired with a GTX 1660 super which never had these issues with stuttering, Do you think my CPU is a bottleneck with my 4070 at 1440p?

No, a 4070 should work great with a 5800x. Something else is wrong.

Do you still have the 1660 card that you could swap in to try?

There was that fTPM stuttering bug that was fixed with a bios update. So if you don't have the newest bios, that's your next step.

I have Rebar enabled and on the latest Bios and also disabled fTPM just in case and XMP is enabled that's the only things I have changed in bios everything else is at default. Is there anything else I can change in bios that will help or shall I leave everything else on auto?.

Thanks for helping

I used eco mode on my 5800X with the +200MHz PBO boost. I never had the issues you are experiencing. If you use any RGB control apps I'd nuke them until at the very least you are done troubleshooting. You already did fresh windows which eliminated a bunch of the usual suspects.

You can do all of the usual physical stuff like reseating everything, especially the CPU, and making certain there aren't cables not fully clicked in, Particularly the CPU power cables. I'd also point an temp gun at everything on the board while under load and see if anything is too toasty. Hardware monitoring is not always accurate IME.

I don't use any RGB equipment, I Could try reseating the CPU to see if that helps. My PSU is a Corsair TX850M 850W 80 Plus Gold Semi Modular I bought the same time as my 5800x 2 years ago.

Does this look ok? because my PCie read and writes seem low? https://ibb.co/vz5NdYx

I've never seen that reading before but it does seem odd. Is that an up-to-date version of HWMonitor?

Check PCIe link speed?

Though I also find it odd that a GPU would still have 99% workload if it's being utterly starved of PCIe bandwidth. I think that reading might be a red herring.

Another issue I'm getting is lockups/freezes on desktop when opening a window or app the the System will freeze and stutter for a split second

Here's one of many 1 star reviews for your motherboard on Newegg:

Pros: - Nice design- Had the configuration that I wanted- Good price

Cons: Initially had some difficulty getting to POST.

Overall Review: Within the last few weeks i have notice some skipping in audio/video while playing Rainbow 6 Siege. Attempted to diagnose and eliminate computer parts that could be the cause. Updated chipset drivers and bios successfully. Though additional problems began.- I began to get Windows crashes.- When I needed to restart the PC I would wait for long periods of time for the restart to happen.- Sometimes the video card would fail to power on while the rest of the system would. It required me to flipping the PSU power switch on and off again in order to get the video card to work properly.- I switched out power supply unit and the video card and still experience the same issues.

Memory or storage going bad? Could be motherboard as well but if it was running well for 2 years, it seems less likely.

Edit: Did you update your BIOS the same time you installed the new GPU? I tried the latest BIOS for my Gigabyte board a few months ago but had multiple weird issues pop up. I rolled back to 1 before the latest and everything was fine again.

I done a memtest and came back with no errors, Only thing left to try is install windows on a new drive, Shall I enable PBO to see if that helps my issue?

It won't hurt to try PBO. You can run CrystalDiskInfo on the current drive to make certain it is healthy, if you haven't already. And try it in the other m.2 slot. The user reviews of that board really are terrible. Might end up needing an RMA.

Both my drives say good health in CrystalDiskinfo. Here are my drive speeds

Do they look ok?

Thanks.

No CRC errors which is good. A large amount of info log entries with may be notable if I knew how to access that information. Has the SSD firmware been updated? Samsung SSDs had a problem a year or so ago which was fixed by firmware.

PS - I would only do a firmware update if your certain that your system is stable enough to complete the procedure. With Samsung Magician I think it only takes a few seconds and then asks the user to restart.

Someone else had problems with their 5800H being slow. They reinstalled Windows and then it was fine.

Considering the nuclear option didn't work it may be a hardware problem of some sort. But that seems weird, how could Gigabyte mess up a board that badly.

You close everything else when you game? What games?

Trust me, they are VERY capable at doing that.

Been the owner of three Gigabyte boards so far in my life.

First one (forgot the model and chipset), supported a Core 2 Quad CPU and wouldn't turn on after being left sitting unpowered for a while. I bought it from a different city so returning it wasn't an option. It had all four slots populated with 2GB DIMMs for a total of 8GB DDR2 RAM. It also had two DDR3 slots but unfortunately, never got to use them and sold it to someone in return for a bunch of Blurays. Anywa, I would have to take out one or two DIMMs to boot it. Then I would power it down and insert the remaining DIMMs and it would finally turn on with the full 8GB RAM. Was busy with console gaming in those years so it wasn't a huge problem for me.

2nd one was an expensive $300 Z77 model. It probably had RAM compatibility issues. It supported 32GB RAM as well as a Core i3-2100. Upgraded it to i7-3770 after a few years. It was ok for the most part but would sometimes glitch out or reboot when idle. Could be the Corsair RAM I used with it.

3rd one was a Z97 mobo with i7-5775C. It absolutely hated the Corsair RAM I used with it from the Z77 mobo. Had to buy Kingston 32GB DDR3-1866 to make it fully stable. It was my most stable Gigabyte mobo.

After three generations of Gigabyte, I decided to go with ASROCK for my Z790. Definitely less problematic than Gigabyte.
