It’s build fucking housing….repeat after me…build fucking housing. The problem is there is a shortage of 7m affordable housing units in this country. Penalizing people for being poor won’t fix shit. It just makes them poorer. If you are really interested in learning more check out the story below.
The Supreme Court is hearing a case Monday that could have major implications for how cities and local jurisdictions deal with homelessness.

I agree we need far, far more housing.
Now back to homelessness explain how someone who has no job and will not have a job because:
They have no experience
They may not have graduated high school
They have severe dependency issues with drugs and/or drinking
They have been arrested likely more than once
They speak in a lazy and frankly uneducated way
They do not groom themselves well
They do not care for themselves
They are prone to petty arguments
They are obviously mentally ill
How is that person going to get a job, how is that person going to get approved & pay a mortgage?
The root problem of much of the homeless is addiction & mental illness. There is no fixing it without addressing those issues.
Think of yourself has there ever been a time in your life where you lost your housing and everything you had. What would cause such a calamity? Hopefully it hasn’t happened to you so let’s just pretend you lose everything you have tomorrow. I bet there are multiple people you could speak to that would offer you a space in their home maybe not forever but long enough to have something again. What happened to the homeless peoples friend and family network? Their substance abuse and general craziness burned all those bridges and nobody will allow them into their home because of all the chaos and craziness that comes with them.
That’s the problem. That’s what I mean by many are not capable of caring for themselves because they are too screwed up with addiction. That addiction is the cause of all problems that follow. Nothing will be changed until whatever is driving that addiction is gone.
