I finally joined the 21st century and started using apps since menu prices are such a screw job for fast food now. Yesterday used the Arby's app to get a free 1/2 lb beef & cheddar after buying a $1.59 applesauce, as the coupon is get any sandwich free with any purchase online. Then went next door to McDonalds for $1 large fries with that coupon in their app since I'm a cheap bastard. Think it was like $2.80 with tax for this giant sandwich, a large fries, and an applesauce lol. Was a good sandwich but no way in hell I'm ever paying the $10 Arby's wants for a 1/2 lb beef & cheddar. But I'll buy one a week the next two weeks for $1.59+tax while the (weekly) promotion is going on.

When I do stoop to using an app, I just uninstall it after I get my order. I don't do it often, so that's not too much hassle.

Yeah, that's why I uninstall them afterwards. I don't figure they can garner too much data in an hour.

They still track you beyond your account. They can even do it across different systems/networks. Before I switched to a custom rom I would constantly get targeted ads on my work machine (no ad blocker, we can't install extensions) yet my phone was in no way attached to the corporate network or any of the accounts on the corporate network.

Most of these apps could easily be made as a regular web app hosted on their existing web server infrastructure but yet they choose to go through the complexity of embedded programming for each phone platform, so the extra complexity and cost must be worth it with all the data they gather and can then sell.

What chaps my butt is that you get different prices inside than at the drive through at McDonald's. Breakfast biscuits inside are $5.38 each; in the drive through, two for $5.00. The special isn't offered inside. I walked out of the McDicks with no food when I saw the price.

I would contact your state's dept of weight and measures, and see what their policy s about that. Perhaps the restaraunt should be fined.

I found some maple raisin bran at the grocery outlet, and it's fucking delicious. Take note @IronWing, it reminds me of BucWheats. That's a distant memory, so it might be off, but it's really good. I'm hoping they have more when I go this weekend. I want to get a few more boxes. I'll store it in the fridge if I have to. I'll also check at Wegmans next time I go, but my usual grocery shopping isn't at standard grocery stores, so I can't check if they have it.

Tried the new Tim Horton's Habenero Chicken bowls, and it was actually pretty good. I did have Diarrhea for like 24 hours after though. I'm going to get one again next time just to confirm if that's what caused it, and if yes I won't have it again. Either way, worth it.

Hadn't had Carl's Jr. in awhile so my stepson and I stopped by the other day. He ordered a superstar w/cheese meal large. Just shy of $19!! if we had more time I should've walked out with him and went to Chili's right next door for that price!

I have thought about having a secondary phone lying around that only gets used for stuff like this.

If that phone's an iPhone when you install an app it asks "allow app to track you" or something to that effect. And if you select no it doesn't track you, and the app still functions normally. Meanwhile I can't use my Android tablet to monitor my Bluetooth temp probes for my smoker unless I allow it to track my location. When installing it I said "don't allow" and it wouldn't install lol. So I emailed the company and they said they didn't want to do this, but it's a requirement by Google for all BT devices. I guess Google needs to know where and when I'm smoking my ribs. The same probes work on my iPhone without location services required. I know people hate iPhone but it's a lot less envasive.

You can get a 2-topping large at Domino's Pizza for $7 through Sunday.

Google is all kinds of shitty nowadays, but I think that company's answer is bullshit.

Google search is so bad now I just append reddit to search terms so I get decent results. Eg instead of typing "PS5 can't read USB jump drive" into google search I'll type "PS5 can't read USB jump drive reddit"

Is it really that bad? I don't know, because 95% of my searches are on DDG. I think for shopping, Google still gives better results. You can blame this mofo:

I have no plans of dropping Gmail or Android, but it's a bizarre world we live in when Microsoft seems less evil than Google. They do all kinds of lame shit in Mountain View now, but I find it repugnant that they've laid off tens of thousands of workers while they're on a run rate to make nearly $100B in net profit. (Yes, profit, not gross revenue.) Gotta maximize that shareholder value.

Hope I didn't derail this thread.

I also use DDG primarily, and have for a long time, but I still find adding "site:reddit.com" to a search is the most likely way to find answers to tons of questions.

That's crazy, even if that was the double superstar, no fuckin way. I remember when the $6 burger was $6 and it was pretty big for a fast food burger. I just went into the Carl's app. What's wild is I have 3 within 2 miles of me. The combo I want (El Diablo) is $16.79 at 2, and $13.49 at the last one. I understand pricing varies off location, but that's a pretty damn significant difference. And IMHO $13.49's already on the higher end of what I'd want to pay.

Google search on phones is vastly different than google search on a PC. On phones, it is terribad, useless.

While I find this true with voice-search using assistant, typed search (ignoring the worthless AI) is mostly the same on my phone.

I remember when they called it the $6 burger because they said it was as good as a burger you'd get charged $6 for in a steakhouse and it was like $3 or maybe $3.50. Used to get the guacamole one all the time. The commercial with Hugh Hefner saying he loved his $6 burger but didn't mean he was going to have it every night killed me every time I saw it. Sadly after they came back to San Antonio around 2010 their locations went to crap within a year or two while being just as good as they were in LA the first year, and now San Antonio doesn't have Carl's Jr any more.
