Build:

CPU: 12400f

Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin Mini 120
Thermal Paste: Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut

Motherboard: MSI Pro B760-P Wifi DDR4

Case: Cooler Master K350

Case Fans: Front intake, bottom intake, rear exhaust. All case fans are Arctic P12s

Idle temps are in the 30s, high 30s if I had already pushed the CPU since boot, low 30s if not. Ran Prime95 for 2 hours and temps held stable at 92 degrees with 0 throttling. With the stock cooler I was reaching 100 and throttling but not enough to cause crashes, just lowered clock speeds. Idle on the stock cooler was in the 40s. Aren't these temps still high considering the CPU?

Try AMD! Idle is higher but, performance is better.

Advice, don't worry about it and just use it. If it were above 50 all of the time then I would be looking at the seating of the cooler and paste. I use graphite pads instead of paste and get the same temps without having the mess or repaste.

Leaning towards just never checking monitoring software so I can forget about this lol

If you're OCD about it then it's going to bug you forever. Temps are just something to check after a build and monitor for a week. If something starts acting funny or get sluggish it's a good place to start but, generally it's just a competition with yourself. Low temps means you're not using it and that usually defeats the purpose of a PC.

Now, if you're running 24/7 and doing mundane things it can make a difference in your monthly bill for electricity. Generally though it doesn't impact most routine use though. My laptop has a 12700H inside and typically sits around 50C which bugged me at first but, it runs smoother than the prior and I find killing the Chrome GPU process spins down the fans. It all comes down to your goals though and typical use. In laptops it's a bit more important since the heat sink usually covers both CPU/GPU with the same plate and thus if one runs hot they both run hot.

I have an i5-12400 with a BeQuiet Pure Rock 2 cooler and it's usually between 32-35 when just sitting in a web browser or the desktop. Never tested in Prime95, but in Cinebench, it would hover around 70C.

Assuming you applied thermal paste correctly, and all your fan curves and power levels are normal, the only thing I would consider checking would be that you have the fan mounted to the part closest to the I/O shield and blowing air through it (and so it pulls air through the part closest to the RAM).

Also, not sure what GPU you have, which could play a role in airflow and your temps. Looking at the case, the bottom front intake might have a great path to get to the CPU cooler, so you could see higher temps than someone using a case with an unobstructed front panel.

Will try out Cinebench when I get home later, might be a more reasonable stress test. Yeah the fan is mounted in between the two fin stacks. GPU is an OCPC RTX 3060ti MIR and the front intake is a bit blocked because I have 2 hard drives in front of it. Since we have similar idle temps (mine is at 36 max when just browsing other than those split second spikes) I'm thinking this just might be because of the case
