I'm thinking that like an invasive species or a incipient fashion trend, we become conscious of things happening around us only when knowledge about them breaks through the background noise. I read this and thought to myself, how many people living in San Francisco are even aware of such machinations.

What do you suppose we have here, viable progressiveness on the right, an incipient new better tomorrow or the naive ramblings of emotionally immature but rich techno-monkeys. What do you think we are seeing?

A trap a lot of technologically oriented people fall into is believing there's a fix for every problem if you look hard enough. I've learned that often leads one to fall to deep into a rabbit hole and accept things that should not be in order to unravel a gordian knot rather than just cutting it. The very intelligent or technically oriented are just as ripe for abuse by an authoritarian as someone less intelligent or more classically trained, even if for different reasons.

Unfortunately they are also usually with greater means and tend to be more powerful than people realize due to presentation, so they're also very ripe for becoming authoritarians. I've been saying to anyone that will listen that we need to be paying very close attention to any loud liberal/Democrats in the next 10-20y. Our country is on the cusp of a shift to authoritarian and a smart liberal techy that can solve all our problems is exactly the kind of person that would get voted in with resounding applause.

What we're seeing is idiots that will attempt any solution to a problem except the one that will work.
I've reached my limit for acceptance of new ideas. We know how to make a city work, we know how to keep order and a reasonable level of personal safety, yet we keep looking for way's to avoid doing it.
It's stupid to vote for anarchy then be surprised when you get it.

A limit of 0 new ideas is still a limit so technically you are right. Good job.

However didn’t you move from California to Mississippi a state that has a murder rate 3.5 times as high as CA? You sure you know how to keep a reasonable level of personal safety?

I did indeed move from the glorious Mecca of freedom that is California, to the wretched hellhole of Mississippi. I freely admit that I gave up a lot in doing so. I gave up homeless people lining the streets, I gave up panhandlers at every stop light, I gave up running a gauntlet of day labors at the home depot, I gave up trash dumped on the street, and shit on the sidewalk, I gave up stupid high energy cost, I gave up truly absurd property taxes, I gave up an hour and half drive to work every day. I gave up all of that to live in a beautiful home on a quiet street, with very pleasant neighbors and everything I need within two miles of me.
So while this place might be a hell hole for you, it's been absolutely wonderful for me.
