  1. Plant Based Diets, better health?

Note that I said "often" , not "always". Corporations marketing their products will have the loosest definition. For example, packaged food labeled as "Plant Based" often include dairy. Not sure how Dairy is Plant Based. This is what WFPB is all about...
  2. Plant Based Diets, better health?

"Plant Based" is often shorthand for "Whole Food Plant Based" where sugar and refined flour would be out. Which is the direction many are moving today (myself included).
  3. Plant Based Diets, better health?

Sure if you get your "carbs" from donuts, wonder bread, and soda they are a problem. But if they are from whole plant foods like beans, oats, vegetables, they are not a problem. The problem with the SAD (Standard American Diet) is that "carbs" come mostly from the former, not the latter.
  4. Plant Based Diets, better health?

There is nothing wrong with "Starches". That sounds like carb phobia.
  5. Discussion RDNA4 + CDNA3 Architectures Thread

Strix Halo could have cost advantages over Discrete GPUs since it uses a shared memory pool, while having similar to discrete GPU performance. AMD would have to price it enough that system makers see a clear savings though. Temptation will be there to increase profit margins...
  6. News Intel GPUs - Battlemage rumoured cancelled (again)

You really need a great part to succeed in laptops. AMD seems to have even tougher time selling laptop GPUs than they do desktop parts. So Intel will have to spend it's time in the wilderness before it would make much sense to chase laptop wins. Desktop remains the crucible to improve their...
  7. News Intel GPUs - Battlemage rumoured cancelled (again)

That isn't really a sustainable position if your competition is good for everything including gaming. They are not perfectly fine to compete with larger future iGPU/APU parts, from AMD and potentially more on the Windows-ARM side. APU/iGPU competition will scale up in the future (soon...

But Laptop SoC are likely too slow to very large LLMs. I don't see any push to run LLMs on SoCs... Consumer applications of AI will likely involve models optimized for 8GB. Hobbyist stuff can expand as much as you want, but if you want to run those massive models, you likely aren't going to...
  9. News Intel GPUs - Battlemage rumoured cancelled (again)

Intel without credible GPU is dead in the long term. Instead of cancelling a long time ago, they should have made a serious GPU push a long time ago.
  10. Discussion RDNA4 + CDNA3 Architectures Thread

It's not just performance. Another reason NVidia has mindshare, is because they lead on introducing features. RT, DLSS, G-sync, Fake Frames... You often end up waiting years for AMD to catch up, and when AMD offer the features it's often a lesser version.
  11. A design with two combustion chambers placed on opposite sides. From combustion to electrical energy without rotational alternator.

Another garbage, robot voiced sensationalizing channel to add to the block list. Not watching more than the few seconds it took, to recognize that. From your still image, that looks like something I saw about 20-30 years ago in Popular Science. I remember free piston engines with coils to...

Mid cycle refreshes are aimed at...

  15. General VR discussion thread

I coincidentally stumbled on that yesterday. Highly recommend it. I'm a display nerd and researched all that info to better understand VR displays over many hours, spread over many weeks. So I didn't learn anything new except for the Holographic lens stuff, but everything else is bang on and...
  16. Poll: Do you care about ray tracing / upscaling?

I think it will be fairly easy to update for Devs, but unfortunately AMD FSR is compiled into the game EXE so much for difficult for end users if the Devs don't bother. AMD is talking about future proofing with this one and it being trivial to update going forward after this, so I'm betting...

  20. Rivian announces the R2, R3, R3X! $45K starting price, 0-60 under 3 secs, 300+ miles range.

That's barely visible to me. Nice and understated, after seeing things like this: And those low ground clearance models I listed before lack those thin strips of black if that bothers you so much. Lots of low ground clearance models without black plastic. The black trim is just Rivian...
  21. Rivian announces the R2, R3, R3X! $45K starting price, 0-60 under 3 secs, 300+ miles range.

That's pretty small plastic cladding IMO. Can't please everyone. I doubt that will be a major impediment for most EV buyers. In fact most EVs are more car oriented with lower ground clearance, like the Tesla 3 and Y, VW ID.3, ID.4, Hyundai Kona Electric, Ioniq 5, 6, Kia EV6, Niro, etc...
  22. Rivian announces the R2, R3, R3X! $45K starting price, 0-60 under 3 secs, 300+ miles range.

I don't think there is much lift on the base model. Probably has 7" of ground clearance, vs a normal car with 6". R3X with it's bigger wheels is the more "off road" oriented one with more ground clearance.

What do you mean by "Car Version". The R3 hatchback is not very big. At most it's about 175" long. A Honda Civic Hatchback (definitely a car) is 184" long.

I wondered if anyone would be talking about that engineering sample. I started seeing a lot of things indicating Lion Cove wouldn't have HT/SMT, and this seems to be the source. An engineering sample. I think it's a bit early to assume that HT is gone based on an early engineering sample...
  30. Discussion Should MLID be considered a legitimate source

IMO, MLID is for people that want their tech rumors in the form of an embellished soap opera, full of fake drama for clicks. I could never stand listening to the guy. He just set off my BS detector immediately. I have no doubt he sometimes gets leaked info sent to him, but he mixes in a bunch...
  31. Dodge Charger EV - With external electronic noise maker

A lot of cars had that classic coke bottle shape in the late 60's. The car they are really try to evoke is the Second Generation Dodge Charger, which is probably the most famous and iconic model of the Dodge Charger. Also made more famous with the 1969 Charger used in "The Dukes of Hazzard".
  32. Dodge Charger EV - With external electronic noise maker

How does that change either case? When a car is moving beyond parking lot speed, it's wind/tire noise that you hear for oncoming cars. In a parking lot everyone walks in front of moving cars regardless, so it's up to the driver to be very careful and not hit people...
  33. Dodge Charger EV - With external electronic noise maker

In a parking lot, pedestrians usually just ignore cars, and it's up to drivers to be extra careful and not run them over. Extremely often when I'm grocery shopping, there is some pedestrian obliviously walking in front of my car, when I'm already rolling (ICE car, not hybrid). So in both...
  34. Dodge Charger EV - With external electronic noise maker

It really isn't. Pay close attention the next time you are near a road. You don't actually here engine noise of approaching cars (normal cars without loud exhaust), you hear wind and tire noise.
  35. Dodge Charger EV - With external electronic noise maker

The new Dodge Charger EV reveal has been making some positive waves. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a60047406/2024-dodge-charger-daytona-ev-revealed/ I don't mind the looks... But that's where the good ends for me. I'm much less enthused than the press on this one. I would not buy any...
  36. Rivian announces the R2, R3, R3X! $45K starting price, 0-60 under 3 secs, 300+ miles range.

While the R3 looks like a classic small hatchback, it isn't. I'm certain it's bigger than the 2017 HR-V. It's not a compact econobox turned into a CUV. It's an R2 shortened a bit. The R2 is 185.6"L x 75"W x 66.9"H. I only expect the length to change, and probably only shortened about 10"...
  37. Question Apple Vision Pro announced - $3499!

Apple attempted to market the productivity side, but that doesn't actually make it better at productivity than what we already have. A lot of people fell for the marketing and didn't buy them just to watch videos, but for many people that ends up being what they are use for, because it's...
