Not sure why you are giving that guy views, but that is beside the point. It is not in AMD's interest to join a crowded ARM field. Also, they have developed ARM CPU's before, There was an Opteron at least.
A 5600(X) on AM4 is hardly the "latest and greatest". Also, you keep saying 64Gb of memory, do you mean 8GB?
Who cares what they sold them at? Back then you needed to pay the Intel tax if you wanted more than 4 cores.
AVX2 would be great for that.
Then why have you been asking about V2's...
Your background in marketing is showing. I don't think there is a good way to label these. Is a 2023 Light worse than a 2014 Ultra? Probably, but you can't tell by the name alone.
As I expected, Anandtech has yet to update the "review" of the 14900KS. They said they would run the benchmarks again over the weekend with Intel's new guidelines, but alas, nothing. I am starting to agree with @DAPUNISHER about our corporate overlords since the PC Gamer thing was posted the...
I'm guessing you're talking about me? Ivy Bridge certainly didn't have VCache, but gaming isn't everything. I got the i5 3570k which was great for years but not towards the end. The lack of HT made it sluggish. Thankfully AMD never did stupid market segmentation like disabling HT or AVX(2).
I got a 5700X for just under $200, you got ripped off :D . Especially considering I was able to use the same motherboard and upgrade from a 2600X. Don't tell certain people this, because they believe no one upgrades a CPU with the same motherboard.
I am joking naturally. Zen 3 has been an...
What a joke? Your commentary is a joke! You keep saying how old and wise you are as if nobody else here has been working with computers for as long as you have, and therefore everyone should shut up and listen.
You say you've been playing with consoles since the Atari 2600, if so you must know...
You really don't need ray tracing to make water look good. Check out this from HL2:
https://www.anandtech.com/show/1549/2
Look at the second image in DX9 vs DX8. DX8 looks like a turd, in DirectX 9 the water looks much better. This was possible only 20 years ago or so.
I just found it to be an odd statement. I agree about the gamer laptop part. I don't want the word "gaming" on my stuff, or RGB anything. I've said before how I hate how companies throw gaming on everything, like "gaming memory", or "gaming SSD". And I criticized AMD when they called their L3...
So simply being male means one is childish? That's the stupidest thing I've read lately. Maybe you've been watching too much TV where all the commercials depict dads as being buffoons.
If you are looking for a budget gaming build have you considered getting a 5600G? I would take a modern system over an e-waste system any day. Think about it, you spend $150 on an e-waste system, another $30 to replace it with an e-waste CPU, who knows how much more for a PSU, just to put in a...
Price seems to be the primary factor. My opinion would be to not spend money on obsolete hardware. I would hold on to it until I had enough to do something more modern.
Memory doesn't seem to be an issue as he said $150 for everything but the GPU. But then like he said you start running into...
That's why I made sure to mention AVX2. It will almost certainly speed up Handbrake, but you don't actually need it for that. I knew AVX only games were a thing, but I didn't know we reached the point where now AVX2 is required as well for some.
It makes sense. AVX2 has been out forever now and...
Probably a good bit better. You have the update to Haswell and you also get AVX2 on top of that which I imagine would help with Handbrake. I figured they were a different socket but it seems they are not. One would still have to check with motherboard support though.
Well yes, but they get their butts kicked in every possible way.
Depending on the games, that may not matter. But I thought it was worth mentioning. Half the TDP and far more performance.
I was just giving you my opinion. I don't think that will age well but maybe it's fine for what you are looking for. I wouldn't recommend an RX 590 either. It is a power hog for little benefit over an RX 580. If you go that route I'd recommend the 8GB version. If you can get an RX 5700/XT...
Probably one of the 8 cores but those are really old at this point. It might be better to just save some money and eventually get something newer. You could probably get some used parts and build an AM4 system on the cheaper side these days. The 5600X is selling for just under $100 on ebay. Pair...
Makes a lot more sense now that you said how it happened. A 13900k is certainly an upgrade compared to a 12700k. Then the 13900k had issues so you got a refund and put it towards a 14900k. I was trying to poke fun but could have done a better job at it.
So you went from a 12000 to a 13000 to a 14000? Do you like lighting money on fire? Funny too how critics of AM4 say that no one upgrades a CPU on the same board. Clearly people do. You've gone through three CPU's on the same board it sounds like.
No way that is accurate. That kind of voltage would insta-fry a modern CPU. I remember thinking how excessive 2.2V was on the Athlon XP.
That's pretty good, I use -10 for CO for my CPU. But I also bumped up the frequency some as well. Is there a frequency offset option available on the X3D, or...
So AT released a review of the 14900KS today and apparantly ignored the memo (edit, not menu, derp) to keep things "consistent".
Ah yes to keep things consistent. Consistently crashing maybe, but consistent.
They say they are going to re-run the benchmarks with Intel's guidelines. We'll see...
When you say uninstalling the drivers (Deep vleaning), what do you mean by that? Have you heard of DDU? Could be worth a try. Start in Safe Mode then uninstall the Intel/Nvidia drivers, than restart and reinstall.
RX 480/580 4GB vs 8GB. GTX 1060 3GB vs 6GB. Granted the 3GB version was cut down in other ways and never deserving of being called a 1060.
Based on GPU power Radeon Fury was the one to get. But how well did 4GB age compared to 8GB on a 390X? That Fury was a stupid card because of VRAM...
Of course not but I see no reason to get rid of uop caches, and you have not given any reason as to why they would/should. FWIW I disagree with ditching HT too. It's throwing away mostly free performance for... security? Maybe?
