Hi all,
Need some advice. I am helping an elderly neighbor who is trying her best to work from home. Her computer just died and I am going to help. I already sourced an HP ProDesk G1. It's got an i7 and 16 gb of ram.
Here is the problem: She is working with photoshop. I don't think the...
Buddy had 2014 Cx-5 he used to commute in and out of Manhattan daily. Very reliable. Only ever had an alternator go on him but that did leave him stranded once. He traded it in on a 2019 cx-5. Boy that new one is a hoot. It has the same good driving dynamics as the old one but a lot more...
Good article here: https://www.statnews.com/2020/03/17/a-fiasco-in-the-making-as-the-coronavirus-pandemic-takes-hold-we-are-making-decisions-without-reliable-data/
This happens to be penned by another Stanford luminary. I believe FAH originated at Stanford.....
We have utilized this in long term care settings for a while now. Influenza cases spur prophylactic Tamiflu use for non-symptomatic residents as well as symptomatic ones. Cannot speak to the efficacy as we don't host those types of studies at our facilities.
Currently getting folding work for...
Another first timer here. Seems to be working and the credit should be going to team Anand. Vested interest in helping with Covid-19 research as I work at a hospital in New Jersey. Going to have to let it run without much oversight from me as the days and nights of working are long.
God I love those M5's. Best of the breed. Was stationed in Germany late 90's and bought a new E46. Buddy got a 540i sport. Ripped around on the autobahn. Spent a day at Nordschleife. Freaked out trying to drive in Italy. We had some good times.
I get nostalgic occasionally and go looking...

not bad for a cheap build
Trackhawk is a monster. This will be too. Fairly straightforward to get to 1000hp. Combined that with awd squat launch and it's hard to beat from a dig.
Build completed. Mobo: ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0 $60.- Memory: G.SKILL Aegis 2 x 8 @ 3200 $60.- AMD 1600AF $85.- The rest of the stuff I already had. Holding on to my 980ti as it is still doing fine and can't afford the crazy prices on newer GPU's. Silly.
I like this build. It went...
2003 ford mustang gt that I just got done doing the original lower control arms and front struts. While I was under there I noticed the engine and trans mounts were definitely end of life. Pinion seal is starting to weep too. Sigh.... yep rubber wears out. If you like older cars and want to...
Pulled the trigger on one of these last night. Once upon a time I was deeply into budget AMD rigs. Had a slew of them and every one was OC'd. Been a few years and my sig rig is still performing well. Finally something compelling. Will report here on build and thoughts unless a new thread...
another vote for old school pot and coconut oil. For some inexplicable reason popcorn done this way doesn't taste like coconut nor require any butter. Mysterious but I eat it anyways.
+1. If it caused any significant disruption at our hospital the CIO would be the recipient of this news and would be explaining to the rest of the C-suite how to keep it from happening again.
+1 again. Everything runs though the IT department prior. They do run test environment on some...
Locktite rust neutralizer. Been using it for years on a variety of beaters including the notoriously rust prone mazda proteges. Wipe off the dirt and apply with sponge brush. No additional prep or sanding. Slows the rusting process way down if you do it every season at the first signs of...
Be aware that the 1090T requires serious juice. Some cheaper mobo's VRM's would puke and die under the load.
ebay gtx 960 or maybe even a 780ti would be fairly cheap and pair well with that vintage computer and Win7 and be faster than most of the cards you listed. The Rx 570 will run similar...
Arkaign distributes valuable advice. However, you can find RX 460, 750ti, or GTX 950 for $70.- on ebay. Then you don't have to worry about running power adapters. Good luck buying a 290 or 290x for that price. Most of the sold listings on ebay put the R9's at $100.- plus. The other...
Yeah the front 3/4 view is nice for an SUVish thing. The butt looks horrid. If it hustles an autocross that's a feat. I'm sure the negative sidewall PZero's don't hurt.
Nice to see some top level competition for Tesla. Porsche is coming soon too.
If it runs and drives it's probably worth it. $1400.- for any working Honda is pretty cheap. They probably just don't want to do the timing belt replacement so..... you've been warned.
Based on the TechSpot review posted by ao above I would say the 200ge is far far away from being the "ultimate great" place holder. AMD has done much better at this price point in the past. Some of the $50 ish dollar CPU's for AM3 were outstanding value for the money.
Yeah I have a Zotac amp extreme 980ti that takes over voltage and overclocked like a champ on air. I think aigomorla's recommendations re: GPU brands are correct if we are talking brands in general. There are sometimes diamonds in the rough if you know where to look even amongst the worst...
Rx 480 was never a serious contender for any kind of 4k gaming. I'm surprised you get reasonable fps. Your weakest link is certainly the GPU. A 1080 is a nice bump up.
BTW you certainly did build stepson an awesome PC. He's a lucky little ah heck. My son usually got whatever left over...
Consider that the current average for gamers is a 4 core. Average lifespan on a PC is around 3-5 years. Current best sellers on Amazon and Walmart are i5's and Ryzen 5. It's gonna take years before "mainstream" is more than even 4 cores.
Huh here I was thinking that the top end looked surprisingly accessible. I've worked on transverse v6's that were way harder to get to the back bank.
I think that looks like working under the hood of most any V8 pony car. Just a set of extra holes on either side....
First of the VQ engines. Was always a fan of the early 4DSC. Nicely done on making such high mileage. I'm guessing you reside somewhere that snow doesn't happen.
If you had fun then keep taking it off road. It adds character.
I've always had poor results when it comes time to break out the sand paper. The end result is usually a dull scratched up mess worse than when I started. Studied the youtubes, followed the directions, used the best compounds...
Congrats on the new ride. It's great to treat yourself to a great car.
+1 I would never own a german car out of warranty. Only ever had one but she was a shop queen. I put up with it because, well, yeah that E46 with the sport suspension could really dance.
Great review. At that price I might give them a run. By chance have you ever auditioned a set of Etymotic Research buds? They are my "gold standard" set. I'm sure the Westones are even better but I've never had the opportunity to try them out.
That CPU is listed as already supported for that board

If for some strange reason it doesn't then AMD offers loaner CPU to update bios...
I think the crown vics are a hoot to own. Don't blow them up with dynamite. Much more satisfying to take them to the drag strip and blow them up with 150 shot of NOS. Or the county fair demo derby. Or the local dirt track for open run nights. Rally cross, lemons races, drifto competitions...
Saw them last year. They opened for Iron Maiden. Tight. Their newest album is getting a bit more main stream so less satan-y. Your teen daughters will be safe.
Worth every penny. Finding unmolested examples of this exceptional auto is rarer than hen's teeth. I owned an 88 CRX Si for several years along side an equally wonderful Integra 4 door. Revelation in front wheel drive dynamics. The handling was, for the time, sublime. The engine was nearly...
