The thread wasn't about the ability to hit max details with crazy rubbish like nvidia super shadows and god rays, it was if you could notice the difference. I also didn't say I play everything at 4k.
I generally play 1st person games on a 1440p 144hz display, I did play gta5 on the 4k display...
Are both your cards the same model/manufacturer? Have you got another sli bridge spare you can try? You could also use gpuz and see what it says is the reason the cards are throttling. Whatever your using to monitor framerate doesn't have the option to cap framerate and is enabled?

4k without aa looks way better than 1080p and aa cranked, on the same size displays anyway so far I've only used 27inch 4k...
I've got sli 980's and a 4k monitor. No aa at 4k still looks better than aa at 1440p, this is on a 28 inch screen though so i'm not sure if on bigger screens you will start to notice the crawling/edges.
That said I recommend you wait, the sli profiles are getting alot more problematic lately...
It somewhat depends on what you mainly play. First person shooters at high frame rates benefit alot so if you play those kinda games alot it could be worth it. There is a upside to that monitor even if you can't hit 144fps, if you play with vsync off it should make the tearing a little less...
Thanks guys, seeing the system seems to be fine and it sounds like tracking down where it came from isn't going to be easy I guess i'll wait and see if it starts to become unstable before pursuing it further.
I don't have a picture of what it is on me, so i tried to find a high res picture of a board with the thing and managed to find this from a video card review.
It looked like 1/2 of something that looks like the thing labelled c145 only smaller I think, probably the size of the one above left...
What are the rectangle like silver with black/grey middle things on the back of pcb. I think I found the top of one in the bottom of my case but everything has been fine before and after I found it.

Using the igpu along side a dgpu was something I found interesting about dx12 like Silverforce. Would be nice if some of the physics api's could start off loading to the igpu, could see havok doing it not so much physx.
