Thanks for the stats Stefan! Since I started folding again, I've moved from page 7 to page 4 on the team stats list...moving up slowly but surely. I am currently running a Ryzen 5 5600G, a mobile Intel i5 that's a couple of years old, and a dual-socket Xeon server that's now retired from work...

OK!.........All you OLD DC FARTS! Time to come out of hidding.

Haven't checked in for years...and I never really posted much back in the day but I do miss the original Seti project. I had a lot of fun with that. I still run F@H on one machine and am slowly, slowly moving up the ranks.

New to Rosetta - Have Questions

Update - things were going oddly haywire so I did a re-install of Boinc and now my desktop system seems to be running ok. It also turns out I had a bunch of those t405 workunits and Rosetta has posted an update saying they're bad and to abort them. Those are all flushed out so things are...

and it is not well set up - I'm sure if it was started from scratch and had decent parts it could produce double, with the amount of head and pressure in that location.

It varies depending on a number of factors....it seems to be able to handle 5 amps on its own and we also have a battery bank hooked up to it so it can usually put out about 18 amps on a consistent basis before the batteries start to drain too much. Anything more and the system eventually shuts...

New to Rosetta - Have Questions

Part of the issue is that it isn't me who uses the laptop and the screen usually gets closed when it's not in use. I've set it to stay on even when the screen is closed and it won't hibernate unless someone specifically hibernates it. So, I don't know why it wouldn't restart cruching but -...

New to Rosetta - Have Questions

I've stopped Rosetta on that system for now and am also evaluating Folding@Home. I've been away from DC for a few years so I don't know much about the projects nowadays. I've always had a soft spot for Seti but the goals of Rosetta@Home and Folding@Home interest me....

New to Rosetta - Have Questions

I just recently started crunching Rosetta and have a couple of questions. First, one of my systems is a laptop with a single-core Pentium M. I've noticed that after the system resumes from Standby or Hibernate, Rosetta does not resume crunching. The Boinc Manager is running but crunching...

Old timers chime in....

I don't think I ever ran a 486 but I do remember crunching Seti on a Cyrix 5x86 which took 11 days per work unit! By the way, I just fired up Boinc and started Seti again after a long break. Only on an old Sempron right now but it's nice to be back.

Command-line clients

I have often used a command-line version of the Seti Classic client to burn in client's computers - the main reason being that I did not have to do any sort of an install. With Seti ending, I'm wondering if there are other projects that would allow me to do the same - the only real criteria...

Slow PC in FaD

I can't help you but I can say that I have a Celeron 1.7 running WinXP that gets an average CPU rating of 95, so something is up with that system.

I too have been "forced" to retire about half of the K7S5A's I put into service. They were, however, cost effective systems at the time so I don't feel bad about that. A moment's silence for your loss...

I don't really want to wade through the that thread again but I do recall the lead programmer saying that the GPU being the same speed as a fast P4 was conservative. They were hoping for it to be twice as quick as a P4...

Yah, it doesn't seem too clear yet...I guess we'll have to wait for definitive answers on what generation of cards will be needed and on what platform.... hopefully they'll announce something soon...of course I'm not overly optimistic.

The nice thing about this is that since it will be the only project with a GPU client, pretty much anybody with the right graphics card could run F@H and still run their project of choice on their cpu, with a minimal of loss to their original project....

Wow! It's been a long time since I ran Seti.....the systems I mentioned in my last couple of posts(just above this one) look like they will do 85 WU's per day! I would have started back sooner if I knew about this. Too bad I can't keep it up until the end....
