Discussion Intel Meteor, Arrow, Lunar & Panther Lakes Discussion Threads

Maybe they technically have introduced 5 nodes, but how much has the final product actually improved? Meteor Lake is meh, same or regression in performance, with power savings very platform dependent. Arrow Lake was supposed to be the big step on desktop, but now we see the highest performing...

Too bad that you are getting so much flack for your choices; it is really nobody else;s business. Its your money, right? And upgrading CPUs is a relatively inexpensive hobby compared to a lot of things you could spend money on.

Edit: Hulk has the data already. I didnt see it. From his data it looks like the gain from HT is 15% or slightly over.

Discussion Intel Meteor, Arrow, Lunar & Panther Lakes Discussion Threads

I haven't tried it myself, but I think the gain from HT is more than 10%, even in the hybrid design i9 tiers with lots of E cores (more like 15-20%???). And, you are giving up a more significant benefit in the lower performance tiers where there are less E cores.

Yea, I was just going to comment on this. Meteor Lake may disappoint, but it is far from Bulldozer levels of fail.

    News AMD 1Q2024 Earnings

Stock is down about 5% after hours though. Kind of surprising since to my untrained eye the earnings didnt seem that bad. Maybe the weakness in AI relative to nVidia is hurting them.

Discussion Intel Meteor, Arrow, Lunar & Panther Lakes Discussion Threads

I have mentioned this before, but it makes one wonder how loss of HT will affect gaming. Without E cores, and with lower core counts, we saw a definite lack non HT cpus to handle higher gaming workloads (e.g. 2500k vs 2600K). Did HT help gaming with Raptor Lake, or do the E cores step in? Is...

Was it really clear lead though?? I thought they were fairly close, and Intel had a clock speed advantage. Shortly thereafter I think Rocket Lake was faster in single thread benchmarks, but the lead didn't transfer to gaming.

Question Intel 10700K vs Ryzen Whatever

That is also at 720p, so not a very realistic scenario for gaming for most people. The difference would be less at 1080p, or higher resolution. It is a strange comparison though: the latest generation AMD vs a 2 or 3 generation old intel model. That said, unless you could get a used one cheap...

Discussion Intel Meteor, Arrow, Lunar & Panther Lakes Discussion Threads

Raptor Lake technically had "more cores", but they were E cores. I dont think that had much if anything to do with gaming. Hopefully, though, Intel (and the game developers) will eventually find a way to utilize the E cores. Otherwise, Intel will be in serious trouble if cpu demands in future...

Question Upgrade from i3-12100F to what?

Any of the 12(3,4)400 series would give you six cores as well. Any hex core would be a good upgrade, but that is a pretty low end gpu also. What sort of problems are you having? If you are having stuttering, it is most likely the CPU. If you are just getting a low framerate that improves with...

I am disappointed at the lack of hyperthreading or increased E cores, but considering all the E cores in 14900k I doubt that HT adds 20% to overall performance.

Discussion Intel Meteor, Arrow, Lunar & Panther Lakes Discussion Threads

There is a question mark after that 5.8 ghz claim, so I would take it with a very large grain of salt. I just dont see how ARL is going to be competitive without hyperthreading or an increase in E cores. Edit: it also says the CPU core will be on 20A, not a TSMC node.
  15. O

Discussion Intel Meteor, Arrow, Lunar & Panther Lakes Discussion Threads

Could be because the E cores are more improved than the P cores, or dont show a frequency regression.

Discussion Intel Meteor, Arrow, Lunar & Panther Lakes Discussion Threads

Business and home users are not going to be using programs that use a lot of power anyway. With the lower operating frequencies and light loads, power consumption would be a minor factor, I should think.

Technically, yes, but the maker of the video himself admits that he had to make so many compromises to allow RT that he would not play under those conditions.

But at best, nearly equal to, and in most cases, significantly slower than my ancient 1060 6GB, extrapolating from the 6500XT comparison on Techspot. In any case, I didnt mean to derail this Inte cpul thread with discussion of graphics performance of an AMD cpu, so I will end the conversation.

I will give you a serious answer. For non gaming uses, pretty much any recent integrated solution is sufficient. For gaming, they are a limited low end solution. A better igpu may be of some benefit, but they would not be the determining factor if I were purchasing a new cpu. We have been...

So "rumors" and "leaked documents" (when and by whom?) are more reliable that what Gelsinger says? Honestly, they may be, but personally, I am not convinced by either the rumors or what Gelsinger says. We will have to just wait and see. I will be a very bad look for Intel's foundry business if...

Give it a rest with the packaging hype. Dont get me wrong, I would love to see ARL be very competitive or even beat Zen5. It is the final performance and power consumption that counts though. That is the sum total of all parts of the chip. So what if Foveros is superior to AMD's solution? If the...

Question Raptor Lake - Official Thread

I dont see this as a problem, or at least it is the same problem for Zen 5. Hopefully ARL will at least be more efficient than 14900k, so if it only slightly improves performance, that would be a win. The real competition for ARL will be Zen 5. If Zen 5 cant beat 14900k, it too will be very...

Discussion Will the Ryzen 5800X3D will go down in history as one of the most legendary CPUs of all time?

Depends on your definition of "legendary" I guess. It didnt have the overall impact of being a game changer overall like the 2500k. That CPU changed the landscape in all performance areas. The X3D chips were focused to gaming only, and actually lost some performance in most other applications...

Discussion Intel Meteor, Arrow, Lunar & Panther Lakes Discussion Threads

If the initial leaks are accurate, it looks like LNC is a disaster for intel. What an irony it would be if Intel was Keller's first botched architecture. Of course, it could be that there was simply too much corporate resistance/infighting to allow him to implement the design he really wanted.

IDK. If LNC is not competitive, Intel is in deep trouble, no matter how good the process node, unless they make significant architectural changes quickly.

Only 31% of Americans want an EV or PHEV. What about you?

Living in Minnesota, AWD Corolla hybrid looks like it would be a great choice, or even the Corolla Cross AWD hybrid, but my wife doesnt like the high step in of a CUV. Right now, I have a Subaru Impreza. I would consider another Subaru if they finally bring a good selection of hybrids to their...

Only 31% of Americans want an EV or PHEV. What about you?

That is an interesting idea. However, it seems to me self driving to be able to send you car to a remote charging station is far away if achievable at all. Discussion Anyone else bored out of their mind due to mainstream CPU market stagnation?

Why? What is your use case for 32 e cores? If you are into heavy multi-threaded benchmarks, it could be a monster, assuming the power use and heat can be kept under control. Otherwise, not sure it would be better than 8 + 16 for gaming or general use, unless Intel can manage to shift more of the...

Only 31% of Americans want an EV or PHEV. What about you?

Not that many EVs have a reliable 400 mile range. If I had a home charger and needed two cars, an EV would be practical. However, I park on the street, and have only one car. Why would I want that car to be one that would limit my ability to take long trips, especially since EVs are generally...

Not convinced the infrastructure is adequate for full EV. I also live in a very cold climate, so range is a consideration and even more so in cold weather. I definitely would strongly consider a hybrid or PHEV though.

What should a second Democratic term and trifecta do by 2026?

It is a start, but there are only about 1.5M type one diabetics in the US, so a benefit to what, 1% of the eligible voters. The Dems programs are not necessarily bad, but they do a terrible job of messaging and counteracting the FUD from the Reps on inflation, the Border, crime, and national...

Well, one may not care about single threaded artificial benchmarks per se, but gaming is still strongly influenced by ST performance, no?
