Revolting... And also likely to get away with it.
This brazen practice has already lured AMD to increase the TDP in their newest chips... Bulldozer lessons be damned!
I never knew how deep this rabbit hole goes...

Alright... let's revisit the thread, five years later.
As it happens, by 2024, I have become familiar with all the B450 boards mentioned in the entire discussion.
I got the Asus first... then the Gigabyte, during a sale.
And during the pandemic, I built computers for others, using the Asrock...
How can you determine that there's no POST without a graphic card? Your CPU doesn't have a video output. And when you say "I flashed the newest BIOS (even after removal the processor)" it makes no sense.
Basically, troubleshooting this requires stripping down the computer to the bare minimum -...
The build is ready - had to wait for the CPU to arrive.
At the very last moment, I decided to change the cooler. I ended up installing a Be Quiet! Shadow Rock LP, paired with a slim Noctua fan. The cooler was 75 cm tall with its factory fan, so this arrangement is actually 2mm shorter than the...
Fascinating... I didn't expect to see a general consensus for the B550!
Looking at already existing builds, I see this CPU paired with the Asus, never with the Asrock.

Thank you for your input, folks!
Hello everyone,
I am putting together a gaming system inside a Lian-Li Q58 case.
The GPU will be a RTX 2060 Super. The cooler is the AXP120-X67.
And the CPU will be a 5700X3D.
I can use an Asus ROG Strix B450-i Gaming or an ASRock B550M-ITX/AC.
The Asus board is older, with PCIe 3.0, not 4...
I see you're also running one of these chips, in a dedicated motherboard combo. Checked it out, it's quite wild: Laptop memory, regular ATX power, lots of USB, 4 SATA ports... And you're running Windows 10 on it? How does it perform? Are there any glitches or errors in programs or games?

Probably one of the most comprehensive deconstructions of corporate greed.
I wish there were more stories like these being written!
What I, personally, find distasteful, is the fact that one one hand we're beginning to realize that humanity needs to curb its energy consumption and carbon emissions, in order to slow down climate change, while on the other hand greedy companies like Intel are wasting insane amounts of energy...

"In its stock form, the Core i9-14900KS reached a toasty 85C temperature and consumed 376W of power in Cinebench R23 benchmark runs. [...] With the Core i9-14900KS...
Holy crap!
"We should expect to routinely see 400W or higher sucked down by the Core i9-14900KS, which is something AMD just doesn't need to do with its high-end Ryzen 7000 series desktop CPUs; even the X3D variants don't use anywhere near this level of power to maintain high CPU clocks. [...]...
Thank you for posting those benchmarks! They're quite thorough, and some of the results are surprising. Never imagined the "G" beats the "X", even by small margins...
Interesting take. I'm on the opposite side of the fence: I'm so pleased with AM4 that I think I'll keep using it until AM6 is launched, and bypass AM5 altogether.
Another thing that makes the AM4 platform so great is that 5xx-series boardss, despite not being officially compatible with Zen 1 & 1+, will happily accept and run these processors.
I have this old 2200G that I use as a test CPU for all the motherboards that I come across (either new or...
I also found this link, which perfectly describes the situation:
"The older IEEE 1394a (aka FW400) FireWire standard has been classed as legacy for a number of years now, and driver‑level support for dedicated FW400 cards (normally twin‑port models) has been slowly phased out over recent years...
FireWire is broken in Windows 10 and above.
I have several add-on cards and motherboards with integrated IEEE1394, and I tried desperately to download the video from a Digital 8 camera.
But I wasn't able to make any of them work.
See the problem described here:

I'd say the chances are pretty good that the 5700X3D will become reality.
The 5600x3D was clearly a successful experiment.
I get it.
It's a strategy AMD had followed before, back in the days of AM3(+) and FM1/2 sharing the market. One for the mainstream, the other budget.
They are now using AM4 as their budget offering (plus all the enormous existing install base!) while ironing out the kinks of the AM5 platform...
Yes, the FSP will serve well.
I have a Peerless Assassin on a 5800x. Excellent cooler, and the fan is super quiet.

Great thread...ahh, the memories!
And it's nice to see updates from the OP over the years - including the realization that the troubles were all electrical-related!
By now, it should be clear to anyone who comes across this thread that the life expectancy of most boards ought to comfortably...
Thank you for posting this, but... garbage? really?
This is great news for the market and consumers everywhere in the world... the AM4 socket will have outlasted anything ever seen before.

Snap-on. Installation is a cinch, and the efficiency is outstanding.
That was my understanding as well... But nothing I set up in Handbrake's options will convince it to show non-greyed-out hardware encoding options. Yes, it's Windows.
I am not hurting for lack of video encoding, so for the moment I'll leave it as it is.
But if this were the only workhorse PC in the house, the loss of hardware encoding functions would feel catastrophic.
Well, here's my update... The move was relatively smooth: using DDU really ensured no glitches were present after I changed the hardware. Resizable Bar and PCIE 4.0 are enabled in BIOS.
It feels more and more like a sidegrade for gaming : it works beautifully, but I think the card is running...
Hi folks!
I am curious to hear your thoughts about the scenario described in the title. I recently acquired a brand-new A750 for a good price (at least here in Canada!), so I'd like to see how it performs.
Most reviews and comparison sites suggest the two cards are quite similar in both gaming...
