I think I'll be in the same boat and stick with the 5950x for now........ as long as I do not succumb to the upgrade temptation! Hold out for the new architecture (Zen 5) and let the AM5 platform mature a bit is the current strategy; subject to change if Zen 4 exceeds my expectations.
For 2k gaming, 8GB should be sufficient; similar to 1k gaming where 4GB is usually sufficient.
That said, an extra 2GB on top of the above never hurts as there will be a few titles that will be an exception.
For 4k gaming, AMD is spot on with their 16GB offering and the Nvidia 3080 is short...
This is a good strategy from Intel....... reserve all the 3nm TSMC capacity and just sit on it to eliminate/hinder the Apple and AMD competition. They have a big war chest and now is the time to use it.

I concur....... I have a couple of DELL U3011 monitors, around 10 years old, that has a couple of these "bubbles" that look very similar to your pictures; although not nearly as bad as yours. I expect that mold has managed to get into the layers somehow. Perfectly usable and really not a problem...

I read the Apples performance gains with a grain of salt. They have a history of choosing a single "benchmark" as their metric. (such as a specific Adobe filter that was enhanced to use a new PPC vector instruction earlier in the century - Intel was clearly faster at this point).

I believe that software optimization has a lot to do with how ray tracing performs in games and is an important part of the picture. I fully agree that NVidia likely has superior hardware in this area; it's second generation and they have likely addressed soft spots from their first generation...
Good point that we still need to wait for independent reviews....... I suspect the reality is that AMD optimized their drivers for these "launch benchmark titles" and are likely continuing this process for other titles. It's all down to the software at this point and will be interesting to see...
Keep in mind that AMD did the smart thing and did all the bench marking with their new 5000's unreleased CPU's. This is compared to NVidia using Intel.
Hence all the AMD numbers had a 15% CPU advantage added over Nvidia.

My take is that if you plan on gaming in 4K then 10GB is not sufficient.
1080p seemed to converge on needing 4GB
1440p seemed to converge on needing 8GB (80% more pixels than 1080p. Some folks have 1600p which is 100% more pixels)
This would imply that 2160p or 4K would need around 16GB...
An impressive card; but I'm holding off to see what the AMD team offers:-
1. Impressive cooling system; but the card is using up to around 350watts
- I have a 750watt power supply and this card will use 50% of the power output!

The "AHCI Link Power Management " post I made earlier seemed to have helped; but the "device disconnecting" issue still occurs; just less often.

Turned out that regular USB 3.1 Gen1 was not completely stable either (only saw twice).
Looking at the windows logs there was a "Reset To Device..." error which usually means a buggy driver or .....

I've had the drive plugged in on USB 3.1 Gen 1 all day and there hasn't been any random disconnects. It's definitely been idle for more than 10 minutes and still present.
Just seems that USB 3.1 Gen 2 is not ready for prime time yet.......
