Time to try all the games where you felt the slightest hitch before
I am indeed getting the few that were iffy for CPU bottlenecking this week. Spiderman games with RT mostly. Halo Reach is fixed, plays great. I'll edit that in and add Halo 2 Anniversary which is okay but not great. Get some micro stutter that shows up on the frame time graph as well. Fully playable but unacceptable for an old game.

OG Crysis is fixed now. 1080 full screen max settings is high refresh territory. It hitches a bit which is annoying, but it's still so much better than the last time I tested it. It also crashed twice, both times during checkpoint saves. That was in about 90min of gameplay. Only takes like 30 sec to get back in game from my last save so not a major issue. Game has been janky on win11 for me with other cards too, so meh. I'll update the OP.

Super Meatboy Forever runs great. Cat Quest runs Purrfect. Costume Quest 2 works a treat. Sorry not sorry for the dad jokes.

I would put it on a FAT32 RAMDRIVE created with IMDISK.

To rule out the unlikely case that the hitching is caused by something to do with I/O.
I am not getting that far off in the weeds. Hell, dropping DXVK files into game folders is almost too far to be going in my testing. What I mean is; ARC is shipping in consumer PCs and devices. If it doesn't work with minimal or no user intervention it has failed in those titles. At least until if or when drivers correct it. Considering the state of the game last time I tested it, it is still miles better. I grade it a B now, where as before it was a C- meaning barely passing.

The game plays correctly on AMD GPUs and a GTX 1080 so it's an ARC problem. I saw a review of the MSI Claw and Batman Arkham Knight still needs the DXVK fix, that ain't good.

Any chance you could try these?

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (if the above fails, you could try the version of CoR:EfBB bundled with this one)
No One Live Forever 1 and 2
Oni

Sure hit me up with some game codes.

I'll grab them next time I see them for a buck or 3.

@igor_kavinski

Where do I even get the Riddick games now?

You posted while I was editing.

You can still buy Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena from a key reseller, but we are at a point where this is pricey:

And you may still have to install a 'crack': https://steamcommunity.com/app/9860/discussions/0/3422187248448659639/

Although for that game, it is just the GOG game files with the security removed by the publisher.

Added Ghostbusters Remastered and Thief 2 The Metal Age. Both are great. Delta Force Black Hawk Down still won't launch with newest drivers. Gives the screen where it shows your GPU and says it has the features needed to play. Hit OK for it to run a test which should finish within 30 seconds but CTD at that point. Maybe I can edit the config file or something?

Toasty Bros build a "cheapest new gaming PC" with an i3-12100F and an Intel ARC A380 card. Some gameplay sequences / benchmarks partway through. Pretty decent, on contemporary games.

You must be joking. They said how great Jawa was, only to next say "Thanks to Jawa for sponsoring this video". Not only that, but to say "Honest pricing" on GPU's, wow. Just look at the video.

I didn't watch anything after that. But recommending a 4C/8T these days? Battlefield 1 in 2016 benefitted from a 6 core. I know you are into budget builds, but this just sounds like terrible advice.

For an extreme budget build? 12100 is no slouch, no matter if you wish to label it a"mere" 4C/8T. The IPC uplift from 12th-Gen/Alder Lake P-Cores, means that this 4C/8T CPU competes favorably (for games) with AMD 6C/12T CPUs like the 4500 and 5500. (Again, for GAMES, not Cinebench.)

It's not your father's i7-6700.

Anyways, I wasn't trying to pimp the build vid, only to point out that it contained ARC A380 gameplay vids partway through. This being the ARC thread, I thought someone might be interested.

The 12100 is almost maxed out in Fortnite in their gameplay. I wonder if discord and windows being windows would overload it there? They picked a board so bad that any upgrade path to a significantly faster CPU is almost non existent. It doesn't even have an m.2 slot for flying spaghetti monster's sake. The PSU that came with the case is a potential IED. Horrible build.

For my money: Ryzen 5500 all day every day over the 12100. You can overclock it on a $80 board and get 4.6GHz all core fairly standard. Plus full XMP support unlike that OEM level garbage they used. Those combined overclocks and extra threads make it a better pick for ultra budget builds. Not too mention that $80 board will handle a 5700X3D later.

The ARC A380 was a great pick though, since the challenge was new parts only. Real warranty, 6GB vram, XeSS, models that are slot powered. If you can snag a deal like that RX 5600 that came through Newegg, that's superior, but also very limited stock. Also as shown the A380 can AAA game a bit with XeSS while performing good for esports. I paired it with the overclocked 5500 and CL 18 3600 and the bang for buck is definitely there. Most know by now it's a great choice for encoding and media work.

The A380 is not a gaming card at all. It's an encoding card. By the time BF5 came out. That was the death of the 4C/8T CPU. After that you needed 6C to game well. I would even suggest 8C/16T CPU's for gaming moving forward.

Nonsense. Stop spreading FUD. It competes well with the other ultra budget gaming cards like the GTX 1650 that so many still use.

Advantages over the 1650 and 1630 for gaming-

1. Hardware upscaler

2. Ray tracing. And don't try to tell me it isn't useable. That's PCMR snob talk. I used RT reflections in the Spiderman games along with XeSS and it looked and played well enough to be a good time. Good enough that I ended up playing for over an hour in both games because I forgot I was testing it out.

3. 50% more VRAM.

4. Models go for $100 NIB regularly. Even the pathetically underperforming GTX 1630 never got that cheap.

Having played games from the 2010s at 1080 maxed out, it is indisputably a gaming card.

The magic of the 3D chip, IMO. Not really great at anything but making games run like butter.
It's like that old Lays potato chip commercial - "You can't eat just one." I have 2 5800X3Ds and a 5600X3D now. 😁

I am experimenting with XeSS 1.3 and I am not having the positive experience some like Ancient Gameplays are reporting. It causes driver errors in Spiderman Miles Morales on loading or shortly into the game sometimes. When it does work the FPS boost isn't there. And using the zip line makes it crap the bed on constructing the image until the speed effect is over. I renamed the original file to .old, but I think I am going to delete it completely and see if things improve. Something isn't right.

It should help in cache sensitive apps, especially when multitasking and using other applications. However, it's not easy to identify such applications. Maybe a professional developer among us can shed some light? I know compilation benefits. Virtualization with multiple VMs should also be smoother. Browsing? Maybe. We just don't have good benchmarks to highlight the actual impact of V-cache. However, if you go see benchmarks on Phoronix, there are quite a few cases there where even the slower eDRAM on Broadwell and later Intel chips results in massive speed boosts.
