I agree that it's enriched with friends. Just go sailing with some buddys, and work together to harpoon a sea serpent and bring it to land. Good times, I promise.

Valheim doesn't do any one thing amazingly well, but each piece is serviceable and it all fits together well. Like most games of this nature, you're probably going to get bored with it if all you do is race through progression.

I'm the idiot that takes months to build a base. I've only ever personally killed 2 out of 5 (now 6) bosses. I just like screwing around with the building part of it.

Yeah sailing is really fun and atmospheric, then all of a sudden a massive storm hits and a serpent starts chasing you.

My favorite regions to build is just on the edge of the black forest with meadows or make a nice cabin up in the mountain.

There are still two more planned biomes to release, the deep north and ashland's in the south, it will probably be at least over a year until those are released.

With the way they're going I assume 1 biome a year. So around December this year we should see the next one released.

Best thing about playing with friends is not having to mine by yourself. That gets old quick. Bad part is if you can't all play consistently at the same time, you miss out on stuff. Early on one guy played for a bit and then was gone for a week on vaction. By the time he came back we had a little compound build while before it was just a small cabin. We ran him through the bosses but it was much easier with new gear.

We have a rule that we're not allowed to defeat a biome boss without everyone there.

Yeah as a solo player mining can be a huge chore.

The ingots are fine for the most part(except iron), however mining for stone is a pain. I am building a stone wall on the Black Forest side of my base and each piece of rock wall just eats up stone like nothing.

Same here, played the hell out of it but only completed two bosses. I take my time and go slow.
Probably time to load it up again.

We ended up finding a Yalguth marker the other night so we should finally be able to move into the Mistlands this weekend. We are all sitting on T3 padded armour and we're just finishing up getting the Linen for T4. I'm excited to finally see the new biome content.

So we finished up Yagluth and put some hours into Mistlands. Overall I would say I'm not impressed. There is a lot of new craftable items with the biome, it's got very nice art/theme but it's just not fun. The combination of extremely vertical landscape and limited view distance coupled with odd item progression makes it a chore. It would like taking the Mountain biome and removing 50% of the flatter top portion of the mountain, replacing it with more vertical area and then limiting your viewable distance to 30 feet in front of you.

For the item progression, take the caves from the Black Forest biome and instead of getting multiple Surtling cores per cave you get just 0 to 2. So now you have to go to multiple caves just to build 1 crafting station and there's drastically less caves on top of it so you have to actually sail around to find them. Which means you end up with piles of crafting materials that you can't even use for a long period of time until you finally find enough cores to make just 1 of the many new stations.

I'm sorry it's just not good.

I agree that the mistlands terrain is annoying to navigate, but I think that's intentional. It takes more stam to get through it, and you have to be extra careful about not taking fall damage. Pepper in some mobs, and yeah, it can be very challenging. It is a pretty big departure from biomes where you can easily find a lot of open space for building. In terms of difficulty and variety, I think the mistlands bring something new. Bear in mind I haven't gone there post Yagluth. So here's me in vine armor, a serpent scale shield, and an iron sword trying to survive. Maybe I would be let down once I can "see" the whole picture, vs what I can do now.

I will say that I like how they give old materials new relevance with some of the stuff you can make.

I don't want to get into spoilers too much, but I feel like you may have just gotten really unlucky with your "caves." It's also easy to miss certain passages -- if it's your first time, you may be leaving some stuff on the table. Again, we haven't even killed Bonemass on our server, and we have 3 of the new crafting tables. I don't think we've gone into too many "caves" to do it either....

That's not the kind of challenge I find fun in these types of games. It takes the exploration difficulty of finding mountain caves and tosses in limited view distance on top of it. It pushes it into the not fun area of game play for me. Then it takes my absolute biggest gripe with the game, no Z axis aiming, and ramps it up by having so much uneven terrain. When you're attacked you spend way more time trying to find level ground just to score a hit then actually fighting the enemy.

You guys found multiple dungeons with no Wisp lights through the mist? That's insanely lucky. Half the dungeons I've marked don't even have lights outside of them which means with no Wisp light you'd have to run your face into to see it.

The two I've been in have been in the basements of dwarf forts. For some reason the areas where the dwarves are tend to be mist-free.

Has anybody tired the recent changes?

For my crew and I the difficulty sliders have breathed new life into the game. We're currently running a playthrough with the map and portals disabled....

My group is waiting for Ashlands to drop and then we'll do another play through. I assume it'll be December or January.

Does anyone have a private server? Is it worth it?

We're a group of 5 players. Found one on supercraft.host for $6. The price is very good, just wondering if we should get it.

It's a little under 50 cents a day to rent a server, which is cheaper than it would cost for me to have a computer running 24/7 in my house doing the same thing. If you're playing with multiple people and you need the server up, then it's a no brainer just to rent one.
