Memory problem

Hi,
I just received my new memory today. 2 gigs of OCZ Platinum DDR2 1066 PC 8500.

I installed it on a Gygabyte 965P-DS3 ( first issue ), E6600 and ATI 1950 Pro.
I was using Corsair DDR2 800 PC 6400 and it was smooth but i wanted more speed.

After installing the new memory i booted up and my system worked for about 10 minutes before it shut down to the BIOS page. Once on the BIOS page i couldn't do anything because my keyboard shutdown. I tried unplugging and plugging the keyboard again but noting happened.

I then turned the computer off and on again but the same thing happened only this time it shut down before the Windows screen. After that i replace the memory back to my old one and the system is working flawlessly again.

Obviously i have a problem with my memory. Do i need to reset the timings or is there something else i need to do to the BIOS in order to make my new memory work ? Your advise is appreciated.

First thing to try is clear CMOS ( Reset BIOS to defaults with the Clear CMOS jumper ) and set up your BIOS options again.
If the issue's still there, it'll be the time to get deeper.

BTW I assume that you've flashed your motherboard to the latest BIOS version already ( Don't try flashing it when unstable )

I updated the BIOS to F12 and resetted the CMOS too. The problem persist. There seems to be a problem of compatibility between Gigabyte and OCZ. I'm sending this memory back. Thanks for your help.

I'm looking for a faster memory than my DDR2 800 PC 6400 but i want something that don't need any tweaking, just plug and play.

I just remember, since my memory is so cheap now, would another gig of it make a noticeable impact. Right now i only have 1 gig of memory, two 512 mb sticks. ??

What kind of stuff do you run mostly ?
So we can figure out if you need more RAM.
Also tell us if you plan on overclocking your system.

Ooh, I missed something previously.
Do you still have the OCZ memory kit there ?

The only thing i do with my computer is play games and surf the net. I already packed the OCZ since i got an RMA for it from Newegg.

As a gamer, you shall be focusing on capacity and not speed ( as there's no real-life difference between low-speed and high-speed RAM ).
2GB is the standard now for the new games.
Better sell your current RAM and buy a 2GB Memory Kit, as you'll have guaranteed compatibility ( and surely have a working machine from day 1 if you buy something that's compatible with your mobo ), whereas adding 2 more DIMMs to your current configuration might end up in troubles ( not a rule, but there's a chance ) even if you add the same memory model ( might have different chips, or even a simple difference in the SPD code, etc ).

If you need a help on choosing the 'appropriate' memory kit let me know
