I upgraded my gf's memory to 1.5 GB with a 1 GB Buffalo stick. While it does run faster and it does recognize the RAm, it makes her computer run weird. In IE, entering anything in the browser window is really lagged and sometimes it puts the text in backwards while the text cursor never really moves. Everything else appears to run fine except when you have an application run for over a minute. When I open words, I can type fine, but after a minute of typing, the computer starts to lag again. I took out the RAM and everything went back to normal (and my gf is not pissed anymore). You think it is a bad stick? maybe Lenovo does not like Buffalo sticks? Maybe I installed the RAM wrong (if that's the case, then would it even recognize it?)?

I would first reseat the RAM. You can look at the factory chip for comparison. Have you tried taking out the 512MB and run with just the Buffalo? Did you verify the Buffalo timings to be the same as what's currently in there?

Normally, I would suggest going with a more name brand RAM, particularly one like kingston or corsair, who can match your system(particularly IBM's) down to the sub-model level. However, even that can't seem to guarantee modules playing well together.

Hmmm....I basically tried again today and it worked perfectly (although speed was not increased that much), but it took two tries. I guess the RAM slots are not made well so you really have to make sure the RAM is in correctly. My gf is at class right now so I snuck on her computer and tried it again (shame on me). Since she saw what happened yesterday, I am guessing she will not want that RAM stick in her computer. Oh well...her loss. She is probably gonna wanna buy a different stick of RAM.
