New email address banned by administrator

My account has an old email address that I no longer use. When I tried to update the address, the process failed with an error: "New email address banned by administrator." Since I've never used the address at this site, I'm sure it is due to the TLD being .xyz, which appears to have been banned. How do I work around this?

As an aside, it's pretty stupid to ban TLDs. No spammers are stopped with that approach, and there are thousands of valid TLDs in use these days.

FTFY

I've blocked spammers before doing this and yes it works. If nothing else it slows them down and often that beats nothing. You're just needing to reduce the visible spam rate below the detection rate and acceptable visibility period.

It is not the only approach to use, nor the first when there are other options, but yeah it's better to once in a while, accidentally block someone, than have someone sit staring at a screen while they watch some arsehat troll or spammer keep making new accounts because they're acting like a 3yr old posting as much as possible after banned, when you can see that they keep using the same domain name or VPN /offshore IP range that you could block.

At the same time, I undo blocks when there's a legit request to do so, or after the offending party switches to a different previously-blocked variable.

That's only considering forum administration. I block TLDs against my own received email spam pretty often.

If that domain was banned, it wasn't from any forum admin or forum director.
We don't have that ability to ban a TLD anymore
Haven't for years. In your case it would mean contacting a higher up person within Future to look into it.

Sorry we can't help.

Thanks for the response. How would I go about contacting Future? I'm not sure what that is or how it is involved.

I wrote what I intended. It is rude and presumptuous to correct someone like that, especially when your defense is "no u", but I get the feeling this point won't land.

No, it doesn't.

No, it doesn't. Creating a fake email address takes less than 30 seconds and this method of spam reduction blocks legitimate users.

You're just needing to reduce the visible spam rate below the detection rate and acceptable visibility period. You're wrong.
This reply is nonsense. Your last sentence is very convincing, though.

No, it isn't.

Irrelevant. You aren't running a public forum.

I own an MSP that services 45 businesses and 17,000 users. I have spent more time managing spam than I care to admit, and blocking a TLD has never, ever worked. Using your language, you're wrong.

^ I have no reason to claim it if it weren't true.

If it's no big deal to create a new email address with a different TLD... do it, problem solved? lol
