So I haven't had a console since the original Xbox. I'm an ex PC gamer and I'm looking at getting a console ONLY to play Golf. I know right. I just love playing Golf with friends. Maybe it'll lead to football or racing games but we will see.

So.....I was thinking of just getting the $250 Xbox S (digital) starter kit that comes with 3 month subscription to game pass or whatever it's called. That way I can test the Golf games and see which I want to buy first.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

If you're going to play with friends you'll want the same console they own unless the game is cross-platform.

I'm also not sure how much longer consoles with blu-ray players are going to be made.

xbox golf games (for pricing): https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/search/shop/games?q=golf&devicetype=xbox

If you still have a PC, xbox has a PC Game Pass subscription but it looks like only 2 golf games at the moment. https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-pass/games#pcgames

I'm also seeing the same games for Game Pass Ultimate so a game pass may not be a smart buy for you since you want golf games.

Do you mean the game "Golf with Friends" or do you mean any sort of golf game to play with your friends? Gamepass only has "Golf with Friends". This is more of a miniature golf game. It is very fun, but might not be what you are looking for.

You might want to look into an EA Play Pro subscription instead (available on everything except Switch). That would give you access to PGA Tour, Madden and a few racing games. Really you need to decide which games you actually want to play. Then decide based on that. Series S would be fine for sports games, but remember it is only really 1080p rather than native 4K.

No. Play Golf. With friends. Not "Play golf with friends". PGA Tour games would be fine. How does 1080P look on a 4K tv? Is that an issue at all? Thanks for the insight.

Since you have a 55" it probably wouldn't be very noticeable. The only point where it might be an issue is if you do any sort of split screen gaming. Of course, if you can afford it, a PS5 or Series X would look better, mainly depends how much you really want to spend. Also, consider Series S has half the storage, only 512GB, so you would not be able to have more than 3 or 4 games installed at once.

Ok great. I would not be doing split screen and I wouldn't have more than 2-3 games installed.

Does the Xbox version allow you to swing using Kinetic or such?

I've heard the latest EA golf game is really good. My one buddy that we used to play Tiger Woods and Hot Shots Golf was trying to get me to get it because he likes it so much. He plays on Xbox Series X if that matters.

The best golf game ever IMO is Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds on PS3. It may look cute/cartoony but the actual golfing mechanics and courses in it are fantastic. I really hope they make a new one on PS5 but I doubt it because it looks like they are focusing on the mobile space now unfortunately.

The EA games like Tiger Woods got kind of lame because you could shoot like -30 easily once you leveled your character up. I'm not sure if that is how it still is though.
