SPAM and odd domain prefixes?

I find that a very large amount of spam that I get has weird domain extension. Like the following:
.lol
.click
.bond
.cfd
.rest
.digital
.fun
.page
.life
.services
.site
.world
etc....

If I just set a filter to block all of these, what are the chances that real legitimate email will also get blocked?

I am getting tired of all the spam. I use Thunderbird and the built in "Junk" button doesn't seem to do anything to lessen the volume of spam and neither does unsubscribing to them. I have yet to find a good 3rd party spam filter that works well with Thunderbird.

They're annoying and the likelihood of a legit sense using one of them is very low. Filter the TLD and be done with it

Never unsubscribe from spam from a shady source. It just tells them your email addy is gold, an address that has someone viewing the spam, so it will never stop. Same with robo calls... answer them and your phone # becomes that much more valuable to sell. That is all that some of them are even trying to do, not really sell to or scam you directly, just generate a hot list of email or phone #s to sell.

I was using Mailwasher years ago with Thunderbird, though I don't any longer, back then it was for a non-profit org that had an email address "out there" and just such a high degree of exposure to be picked up by bots, even after converting it to a picture image of the address instead of text on the website and obfuscated on the contact us page.

Using it basically meant that every so often, not as often as checking T'Bird for messages, we'd have to look through what was blocked by Mailwasher to make sure nothing legit was blocked. There was *almost* never anything legit blocked, so it started to feel like wasted time checking it, but not really because it was nice not to have all that junk in the inbox to sort through every time.

Today, any web hosting service, and most ISP and major domain email providers, have more effective spam blockers than that. Have you tried setting up your spam blocking more aggressively with the provider in your account settings, rather than waiting for it to d/l into T'Bird to do it there?

I used to use SpamFighter. It seemed to work well... until it didn't. I can't get it to even install on my new computer. When it worked I really liked it. It integrated well with Thunderbird and grabbed a lot of spam and didn't seem to have too many false positives.
