World has changed at Xbox since I was last there.

After delays in solving a new PC build, I figured I would buy a new Xbox console. I went out to Microsoft's website, selected the Diablo IV edition and went to check out. Microsoft now requires that I have a Microsoft account in addition to an Xbox account just to buy the console from them.

Previously, Microsoft had no idea who I truly was. I'd buy the console in retail and buy a subscription card as well. Use a fake name and custom email address and had online anonymity for a long, long time.

Currently, they want to know way too much personal information and their excuse for this is to protect kids online from accidental purchases. Seriously, this is their excuse to data-mine your rectum. So, in turn with my stubbornness in full effect I told my wife No Thanks of her gift offer and will remove Microsoft from my household. The size of my rectum is for me, and my proctologist, to know. No one at M$ deserves to know the capacity I have for taking it up the butt.

You do know you can walk into any B&M store and buy one, without a microsoft account, right?

Just checking because I honestly am not sure if you knew that based on your post.

You've also needed an email address tied to your Xbox Live account since Xbox Live was introduced on the original Xbox. I too have never bought Xbox Live via anything other than a physical card I purchased in a store and entering the code, and have always had to have it tied to an email address.

Hey guys, as someone that experimented with alternative methods of doing business, I have a card under a pseudonym. While its tied to an account it isn't tied to a SSN, etc.

B&M = brick and mortar = any physical store.

Sorry I got confused and thought you meant a microsoft email account for Xbox Live. Yes, you need to tie some sort of email account to Xbox Live in order to use it, just like you do when you use any service now a days I don't understand why this would be a surprise or be a deal breaker since as mentioned, you need that for literally any other services you use now a days.
