Why not give me your estimated or should I put $999 for 16-core?
It was $999 last time adroc commented on the 16C Zen5 DT price IIRC. So unless he's communicated something else since then I guess that price stays as his claim.

With the USD being so strong at the moment, I think it'll be a tough sell on many markets outside US though.

It will be funny if it turns out that @adroc_thurston time travelled to Canada and all these prices are in Canadian dollars.

Even if availability is fine, most people are gonna be torn between getting 9800X or waiting for 9800X3D. You don't win either way (buyer's remorse vs. you could die before the 9800X3D is available so the last thing you have on your mind before you blip out is, wish I had gotten the 9800X...).

Yeah ... when there's NO competency , you tend to rise product prices ...

When you concurrently ALSO intend to increase your 'market share' ... you rise product prices moderately ...

Either way ... whoever not patient enough to wait for some months, will pay a surcharge ... which seems reasonable.

AMD needs to shrink the time between Zen 5 and Zen 5 V-Cache launches. Because it wasn't until 7800x3d when the floodgates opened.

Zen 5 will not face the same problems as Zen 4 (expensive mobos, expensive DDR5) but still, regardless of how good Zen 5 is, Zen 5 V-Cache will be even better for extra $50-$100.

Or even more likely, if Zen 5 launches at exaggerated price, like $499, few months later, Zen 5 V-Cache will become available in the same price ball park...

You forget how much better Zen 5 MIGHT be. If thats the case, a 9800X3D may not be that much faster than a 9800X

Those rumor prices sound like masterjebaition. I don't care how good these are. No way in hell there will be a big enough market for them with that much of a price increase over Zen 4. If they go higher than 9800x @ $400 and 9950x @ $800 (early adopter MSRP) reviewers and enthusiasts will have a melt down. They likely wouldn't even be very well received at that price if they chart top by a significant margin. I wouldn't be that shocked if they tried this (cause AMD gonna AMD) but I suspect they're just floating this out there to leakers to soften the blow of what will ultimately be a smaller price increase over Zen 4 when launched.

You don't have a choice.
Want the fastest thing? Pay up.
The only value Zen5 part is KRK1.
A tiny fraction of the market consists of people who want the fastest thing possible irrespective of price. I take you at your word that they're floating these prices. Based on AMD's recent history of MSRP it even seems plausible. This is a PR disaster if they actually try it. That's my point.

In this market at 999.99 for 16 core? Better have 50 to 60%% IPC lift on average. That price seems absurd but this is shoot themselves in the foot AMD. I wonder if their focus now is on server and ai. There be margin whales there Captain. On DT? Not so much

I think AMD should change their tactics this time. Launch the 9600X first. Wait two months then launch 9900X. Both of these parts don't sell as well as the other parts so AMD can make them sell by taking advantage of the typical impatience of most PC users. Finally, six months later from the launch of 9600X, they release everything else. The ones for whom 9600X or 9900X is still not enough will give in to their desires and get the expensive CPUs and this way, AMD can make some of their customers buy their product twice! (sorry for not being very eloquent. Haven't had much sleep).

Yeah but people will grumble and then with the passage of time when there is no hope of getting anything better from Intel, they will be forced to pay up.
I think the more likely scenario is that the small subset of non price sensitive ultra enthusiast and prosumer workstation customers would buy them. The non shill YouTube & website reviewers will poo all over them for the absurd price increase over the same class part from the previous generation. They'd encourage their viewers/readers not to buy them and justify it with price/performance charts. Only hyper-partisan AMD fans would defend the pricing on forums, reddit, and comment sections while everyone else would have their pitchforks out. Sales would be terrible and AMD would have to relent and reduce prices weeks after launch.

Guys.

IF the info that I have is correct, AMD will have something to compete not with Intel. They will have something to compete with Qualcomm and Apple.

Expect that they will price those products ACCORDINGLY in such situation. 499$ for 9800X is not out of the question, IF the rumored performance is true.
