Hi folks,
Does anyone here use this generation of cards for other purposes than just gaming? I've been wondering about the AMD RX 9000 series for a couple of specific uses:
1) Encoding and transcoding video with Handbrake, and compatibility with Blu-ray/UHD re/authoring programs BD Rebuilder...
Uh-uh... not going to. It would be too cumbersome to extract it again from the equipment rack.
After doing all that previous troubleshooting with it, I'm just glad it works. I'm going to chalk it up to "unexplained electrical phenomena" and move on.
Otherwise, I fear a slow descent into madness...
Holy ****! It solved itself. Can't believe this.
I just took the computer to a different room, turned it on, looked for Windows updates, left it on for a while, then pressed the power button.
The shutdown was complete, no restart afterwards.
I have no explanation.
Apparently, the Intel card acquits itself quite well in the new Doom game, which requires ray tracing by default, otherwise won't run.
"Last among the cheap n' cheerfuls, Intel’s Arc B580 scored 56fps at native 1080p on Ultra Nightmare, and that was without any cutting-edge early drivers."...
A really merciless and detailed takedown.

"Intel's GPU is a great product at the $250 MSRP. If you can find one at that price, we won't regret the purchase. The 5060 Ti 8GB, however, is a steaming pile – even at $380 –...
Alright... so here I am, with more details.
I took the motherboard out of the case, put it on a cork board, and tried running it with a minimum of devices, to see if this makes a difference.
It still restarts instead of powering off.
I reflashed the BIOS - with the same version, though, since...
No Deep Sleep. That was the Reddit thread I mentioned... the difference made by the use of another fan header is mind-boggling!
Thank you all for the input so far.
I'll try a few more things and report back.
Thank you for the Youtube link. My computer exhibits the exact same behaviour seen there, except that 1) I have no LAN, 2) the Wake on LAN/WiFi functions have been disabled in both Windows and BIOS, and 3) the behavior is present even if the computer boots from a different operating system...
I was thinking about downgrading the BIOS, as well... the problem is that the CPU is the absolute newest in the AM4 lineup, and I am not sure previous BIOS versions would recognize it :(
Yes, I forgot to add that I tried disconnecting and changing the power button, too... Will edit the first...
Hi folks,
I came across this problem with a new build, and it's got me stumped. So I'm turning to your collective wisdom.
The machine was built from ground up, with specific parts, as it's supposed to be a close duplicate/replacement of an existing one.
So the architecture is 5900XT, Asrock...
BTW, the most recent graphics driver for W10 on the Gigabyte site you posted is dated 2017. Ouch!
At least the Windows 11 drivers are fresher: they only go back to 2021....
At this point, I wouldn't bother with the Gigabyte drivers, and using them may even mess your machine.
In all likelihood, they've kept the VGA nomenclature over the years for the sake of cosistency. It still stands for Video Graphics Array, so it's still valid as a designation.
It's very doubtful that Gigabyte's drivers will be anything else (or better) than the regular Nvidia drivers. But you...
Thank you for this. What a fascinating table! It seems the Chinese have reached Bulldozer-level processing power. What's the wattage consumption? In a couple of years they're likely to reach full Zen parity!
Hmmm... OK, I have an interesting one to share with you.
Just out of curiosity, I tried a small comparison between GPUs. I have two computers connected to the same monitor - one of them has a B580, the other runs a 3060Ti.
Both machines have the same CPU and RAM. I am convinced both cards are...
