Part of it could be the bad publicity Nvidia has gotten the last few months with power connectors and wonky drivers. Maybe those Nvidia extras that folks are normally willing to pay higher prices for don't outweigh the possibility of one of those issues cropping up? 🤔
Cheapest 9070 XT and 5070 Ti I could find for sale and actually add to cart in the U.S. were $873 and $900 respectively.
It is a bit strange that they are so close in price when Nvidia normally commands a decently higher price. I wouldn't think it was AMD dictating those prices. Maybe more...
I'm in the same boat as you and your brother and planned to buy a 5090 when they dropped but absolutely refuse to pay $3k+ for it. A Radeon 9090XT with 90% of the horsepower of the 5090 for $1,400 or less would have been awesome. Oh well.

Before the 5000 series benchmarks came out and prices went into the stratosphere, I was definitely planning on a 5090 or 5080. If the 9070XT can be purchased for $600-700, it would be a lot more compelling card than a $1,500 5080 or $3,000 5090 . I would plunk down for that no...
HWUB suggesting the 9070XT should be $550 max seems on the low side. Don't get me wrong, as a consumer I would love to see that price. Get us back to sane mid/high end pricing.
Still seems like HWUB is overvaluing Nvidia's feature set though. That would be a 27% price reduction vs the 5070Ti...
